SNFU is a Canadian hardcore punk band. They formed in 1981 in Edmonton, and relocated to Vancouver in 1992. The band has released ten full-length albums and have been a formative influence on the skate punk subgenre. Their work has on occasion been included in rankings of the best Canadian music.
Nomeansno was a Canadian punk rock band formed in Victoria, British Columbia and later relocated to Vancouver. They issued 11 albums, including a collaborative album with Jello Biafra, as well as numerous EPs and singles. Critic Martin Popoff described their music as "the mightiest merger between the hateful aggression of punk and the discipline of heavy metal." Nomeansno's distinct hardcore punk sound, complex instrumentation, and dark, "savagely intelligent" lyrics inspired subsequent musicians. They are often considered foundational in the punk jazz and post-hardcore movements, and have been cited as a formative influence on the math rock and emo genres.
Social Distortion is an American punk rock band formed in 1978 in Fullerton, California. The band currently consists of Mike Ness, Jonny Wickersham, Brent Harding, David Hidalgo Jr. (drums), and David Kalish (keyboards).
White Light, White Heat, White Trash is the fifth album by American punk rock band, Social Distortion, released on September 17, 1996, by Epic Records. The album was produced by Michael Beinhorn. White Light, White Heat, White Trash is the last Social Distortion studio album to feature guitarist Dennis Danell before his death on February 29, 2000. He did however appear on live album Live at the Roxy in 1998. It is also the band's last release on Epic Records. The album received Social Distortion's highest chart position at the time, entering the Billboard 200 album chart at #27. In the first week of its release, White Light, White Heat, White Trash sold 30,000 copies. Stylistically, the album is harder and considered a return to their punk roots.
Germfree Adolescents is the debut album of English punk rock band X-Ray Spex. It contained the UK hit singles "The Day the World Turned Dayglo", "Identity" and "Germ Free Adolescence" which reached No. 18 in November 1978.
Martin O'Donnell is an American composer known for his work on video game developer Bungie's series, such as Myth, Oni, Halo, and Destiny. O'Donnell collaborated with his musical colleague Michael Salvatori for many of the scores; he has also directed voice talent and sound design for the Halo trilogy. O'Donnell was Bungie's audio lead until April 11, 2014.
Fringe Product is a defunct Canadian independent record label which was owned by Ben Hoffman. Genres on the label included punk, rock, metal, hardcore, death metal, industrial and electronic music. Hoffman was also proprietor of Record Peddler Distribution and The Record Peddler from the late 1970s to the year 2000.
Victims Family is a hardcore punk band formed in 1984 in Santa Rosa, California, by the bass guitarist Larry Boothroyd and the guitarist and vocalist Ralph Spight. Devon VrMeer completed the trio as drummer. Their sound blended punk, heavy metal and jazz, making them difficult to categorize into a single genre. Allmusic says, "Since its inception, the trio has refused to be pigeonholed to any single musical style — incorporating elements of hardcore punk, jazz, funk, hard rock, and noise into its challenging sound". They were known as one of the most musically diverse bands in the San Francisco underground music scene. Over the years, Victims Family went through four drummers and two break-ups. Their name was taken from a piece by the cartoonist B. Kliban.
Feed Us a Fetus is a 1986 album by the Dayglo Abortions. It contains some songs from their first album, which start on track 11 with "Kill the Hosers", but the track listing has been mixed up. Track 22 is two hidden bonus songs. The album is the Dayglo Abortions most successful selling album with 250,000+ Units Worldwide since its release.
Random Killing is a Canadian punk rock band from Toronto who were assembled initially as a joke in 1984. Their original name was Roy's Comrades, which was a nod to Roy McMurtry, Attorney General of Ontario at the time. After writing a few decent songs, the band decided to record and stay together. In 1995, their song "12," from Thoughts of Aggression, was re-recorded at CBC Studios and released as an animated video by Sesame Park and subsequently picked up by Sesame Street where it aired internationally for almost a decade. It was a series of animated number segments that featured an animal rock band performing while showing the number of the day. In 1998, the band performed live on CTV's Open Mike with Mike Bullard. The band performs mainly in Ontario and Quebec but have toured Canada in past. They have performed with bands such as Ripcordz, Armed and Hammered, Dayglo Abortions, GBH, Agnostic Front, Bad Brains, Propagandhi, D.O.A., UK Subs, Bunchofuckingoofs, Coffin Break, and Submachine to name a few. Their song "Undertaker", was featured in a 2008 Space documentary titled "Zombiemania".
White Trash is a funk/hard rock/soul band from Queens, New York. They separate themselves from other bands in their genre with their horn section, called the Badass Brass, which gave them a very funky musical sound. They enjoyed some success in the early 90s before disbanding. White Trash was heavily influenced by Blood Sweat & Tears and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
0 + 2 = 1 is the fifth full-length album by Canadian punk band Nomeansno. Released in 1991, it was the fourth and final studio album to feature Nomeansno's longtime guitarist Andy Kerr. The proper follow-up to their most popular album, Wrong, the record was somewhat polarizing but generally well received by critics.

Vibrant local punk scenes sprung up in Toronto and Vancouver and other Canadian cities. By 1980/81 a Canadian hardcore punk scene emerged.

Hardcore punk is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. The origin of the term "hardcore punk" is uncertain. The Vancouver-based band D.O.A. may have helped to popularize the term with the title of their 1981 album, Hardcore '81. Hardcore historian Steven Blush said that the term "hardcore" is also a reference to the sense of being "fed up" with the existing punk and new wave music. Blush also states that the term refers to "an extreme: the absolute most Punk." One definition of the genre is "a form of exceptionally harsh punk rock."
