The British International Open 2019 (known as The Birds Eye British Championships for sponsorship reasons) [1] was an IWF bronze level weightlifting event hosted at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on the 7-9 June 2019. [2] The competition was a qualifier for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and featured 71 athletes from over 20 nations. [3]

Host nation Great Britain won the most medals with 13 and recorded a 1-2 finish in the Woman's 64kg class with Zoe Smith edging out Sarah Davies by just a single kilogram. [5] China topped the gold medal tally with a total of 3. Four-times World Champion Ilya Ilyin made his second international start since returning from suspension and took silver in the Men's 96kg class. [6] The group was won by Ukraine's Kyryl Pyrohov. [7] Ilyin's Kazakhstan compatriot Denis Ulanov won gold in the Men's 81kg class. [8]

Ilya Aleksandrovich Ilyin is a retired Kazakhstani weightlifter who won four world championships. On 12 December, 2015 at the President's Cup in Grozny, Russia, Ilyin set two world records in the −105 kg class. He lifted 246 kg in the clean and jerk and 437 kg in the total. Ilyin was named IWF World Weightlifter of the Year four times: in 2005, 2006, 2014, and 2015.
Szymon Piotr Kołecki is a Polish former Olympic Champion weightlifter and current mixed martial artist. He was the silver medalist at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and a gold medalist at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, both in the 94 kg categories.
Lü Xiaojun is a Chinese weightlifter. He is a three time Olympic champion and five time world champion competing in the 77 kg category until 2018 and 81 kg starting in 2018 after the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the categories.
Zoe Smith is an English weightlifter. In October 2010 she won a bronze medal in the women's 58kg division at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, her first senior international competition, to become the first English woman to win a Commonwealth Games weightlifting medal. Smith competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and finished 12th in the Women's 58kg division. After missing the 2016 Summer Olympics following an injury, she finished eighth in the 59kg at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Zulfiya Salakharqyzy Chinshanlo is a Kazakhstani weightlifter. She set a world record in the clean and jerk on 29 July 2012 at the 2012 London Olympics by lifting 131 kg.
Kuo Hsing-chun is a Taiwanese Amis weightlifter, Olympic gold medalist, five time world champion, two time Universiade champion, Asian Games champion, and five time Asian champion, competing in the 58 kg division until 2018 and 59 kg starting in 2018 after the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the categories. She has set 11 senior world records in her career.
Saikhom Mirabai Chanu is an Indian weightlifter. 27-year-old Mirabai Chanu lifted a total of 201 kg to win the Gold Medal which was also India's third medal after at the ongoing CWG 2022. She won the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Women's 49 kg category. Mirabai Chanu has won the World Championships and multiple medals at the Commonwealth Games. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India for her contributions to the sport. She was awarded the sporting honour Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna by the Government of India in 2018.
Mohamed Ehab Youssef Ahmed Mahmoud, known as Mohamed Mahmoud or Mohamed Ehab, is an Egyptian weightlifter, and World Champion competing in the 77 kg category until 2018 and 81 kg starting in 2018 after the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the categories.
Cyrille Tchatchet II is a Cameroon-born British weightlifter. He competed in the 85 kg weight category at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at the Cameroon team and finished fifth.
Lasha Talakhadze is a Georgian weightlifter, holding the all-time world records regardless of weight category in the snatch, the clean and jerk and the total since 2021.
Sarah Davies is a British weightlifter, competing in the 64 kg and 69 kg categories internationally and representing England and Great Britain at international competitions. She won the silver medal in the women's 71 kg event at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Fares Ibrahim Saed Hassouna El-Bakh, commonly known as Meso Hassouna, is a Qatari weightlifter, Olympic Champion and two time Junior World Champion competing in the 85 kg, and 94 kg categories until 2018 and 96 kg starting in 2018 after the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the categories.

Sarah Fischer is an Austrian weightlifter. She is a three-time medalist at the European Weightlifting Championships. She also represented Austria at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Her brother is weightlifter David Fischer.
British Weight Lifting (BWL) is a trading name of the British Weight Lifters' Association Ltd (BWLA), the National Governing Body (NGB) in the United Kingdom for the sports of weightlifting and para powerlifting. The Association was initially established in 1910. From 1911 to 2003 its name was the British Amateur Weight Lifters' Association (BAWLA); and in 1957, it was incorporated as a limited company.
Rahmat Erwin Abdullah is an Indonesian weightlifter. He won the gold medal in the men's 73 kg event at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships and a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He is a weightlifter competing in the 73 kg class since 2018 World Weightlifting Championships in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. He made his international debut at the 2017 Youth World Weightlifting Championships held in Bangkok, Thailand in the 69 kg class.
