Brook Street Halt railway station served the town of Rhosllanerchrugog, Denbighshire, Wales, from 1905 to 1915 on the Pontcysyllte branch.

History

Brook Street had been the goods station for Rhosllanerchrugog since the Great Western Railway opened the Rhos Branch in 1901. Here there were a goods office, a goods shed, a weighing machine, a 1-ton lifting crane and two sidings. As a result of the introduction of railmotor services the Brook Street passenger halt was opened on the North side (opposite the goods shed) on 1 May 1905. [1] On the south side of the level crossing was the ground level, timber-built signal box. Passenger trains ran as far South as Wynn Hall Halt, but with the closure of the Wynn Hall colliery passenger traffic reduced and when the bus services were introduced in 1912, the railmotor service to Wynn Hall became uneconomic and as a result passenger services south of Rhos station were withdrawn and the Brook Street Halt was closed on 22 March 1915. The signal box closed in 1927. [2] The Pontcysyllte branch south of Rhos, remained open for goods traffic, and the goods office remained open until the line was closed.

Rhosllanerchrugog is a village and community in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. It lies within the historic county of Denbighshire. The entire built-up area including Penycae, Ruabon and Cefn Mawr had a population of 25,362.

The Wrexham and Minera Railway or Wrexham and Minera Branch was a railway line in North Wales between the city of Wrexham, the village of Brymbo where it served the Brymbo Steelworks, and the lead mines and limeworks at Minera. A further branch ran from Brymbo to Coed Talon, where it connected with lines to Mold. The system was constructed in several stages between 1844 and 1872, while the various lines making up the system closed in 1952, 1972 and 1982.

Wynn Hall is a 17th-century house in the old hamlet of Bodylltyn in Ruabon, Wrexham, Wales standing at the junction of the Penycae Road and Plas Bennion Road. It was built in about 1649 by William Wynn and is a Grade II* listed building.

There are eleven disused railway stations between Exeter St Davids and Plymouth Millbay, Devon, England. At eight of these there are visible remains. Of the eleven stations, South Brent and Plympton are subject of campaigns for reopening while Ivybridge station was replaced by another station on a different site.

There are seventeen disused railway stations on the Cornish Main Line between Plymouth in Devon and Penzance in Cornwall, England. The remains of nine of these can be seen from passing trains. While a number of these were closed following the so-called "Beeching Axe" in the 1960s, many of them had been closed much earlier, the traffic for which they had been built failing to materialise.

The Forest of Dean Railway was a railway company operating in Gloucestershire, England. It was formed in 1826 when the moribund Bullo Pill Railway and a connected private railway failed, and they were purchased by the new company. At this stage it was a horse-drawn plateway, charging a toll for private hauliers to use it with horse traction. The traffic was chiefly minerals from the Forest of Dean, in the Whimsey and Churchway areas, near modern-day Cinderford, for onward conveyance from Bullo Pill at first, and later by the Great Western Railway.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Shrewsbury and Chester Railway</span> Former railway company

The North Wales Mineral Railway was formed to carry coal and ironstone from the mineral-bearing area around Wrexham to the River Dee wharves. It was extended to run from Shrewsbury and formed part of a main line trunk route, under the title The Shrewsbury and Chester Railway. It opened in 1846 from Chester to Ruabon, and in 1848 from Ruabon to Shrewsbury. It later merged with the Great Western Railway.

The Dyserth branch line was a short standard-gauge mineral railway between the northern end of the Clwydian Range at Dyserth and the North Wales Coast Line at Prestatyn. The line was constructed by the London and North Western Railway in 1869; it was built to carry quarried stone and coal. The rise of tourism led to the introduction of a passenger service in 1905. There were stations at Dyserth and Meliden, and basic halts were built at other stopping places. Competition from road transport led to the passenger service being withdrawn in 1930. With the eventual demise of all the mineral industries around Dyserth the entire line was closed in September 1973.

The Ruabon Brook Tramway was a Welsh horse-drawn tramway linking the Ruabon coalfield to the Ellesmere Canal at Froncysyllte, with a private extension into the Monsanto works at Cefn Mawr which reconnected to the main line at Trevor. The area was rich in coal, clay and minerals.

Lavernock railway station served the coastal village of Lavernock in South Wales until the 1960s.

West Gosforth was a railway station on the Ponteland Railway, which ran between South Gosforth and Ponteland, with a sub-branch line to Darras Hall. The station served Gosforth in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The Ruabon railway branch lines were a network of railways built to serve the mineral bearing area west of Ruabon, which contained many coal and iron deposits, as well as limestone, and a small but dense network of railways developed to handle the minerals.

This line was extended to the village of Legacy on 27 August 1876.

Legacy railway station was built close to the location of the disused Legacy Colliery when the Great Western Railway built the Rhos Branch in 1901. The disused line built to serve the colliery in 1876 was used by the Rhos branch for a short distance through Legacy Station to the newly formed Legacy junction where the Rhos branch diverged to follow a more Northerly route, eventually meeting the Pontcysyllte branch. Legacy Station was open from 1901 to 1931 for passenger traffic and until 1963 for goods traffic.
