Gelber is an Argentine pianist born in Buenos Aires, with Austrian and French-Italian descent. [1] His father was a violinist, his mother a pianist. [2] He made his first public appearance at age 5, and commenced studies with Vincenzo Scaramuzza (the teacher of Martha Argerich) at age 6. [2] He was confined to bed for a year with poliomyelitis at age 7, but made his formal recital debut when he was 8 years old. [1] He retains a slight limp but does not need crutches. [2]
When he was aged 15, Gelber played the Schumann Concerto under Lorin Maazel in his native Buenos Aires, attracting considerable attention. At age 19 he went to Paris to study under Marguerite Long, and the following year he won 3rd Prize in the Long-Thibaud Competition. [1]
Gelber's career since then has taken him all over the world, and he has appeared with many of the world's great orchestras and conductors. He has made many recordings, including 19 of the complete sonatas of Beethoven. He specialises in the Classical and Romantic repertory, but came late to Rachmaninoff, due to the stubbiness of his fingers. [2]
He resides in Monte Carlo [2] and Buenos Aires, in the art deco Torre Saint in the neighborhood of Once.

After winning first prize at the Geneva Concours de Virtuosité, Portugheis embarked on an international career, visiting almost 50 countries across the world. Elizabeth Sombart is a French classical pianist. In her youth she studied at the Strasbourg Conservatory where her first public performance was at the age of 11. She won first prize in National Piano Awards and Chamber Music Awards, and left France at age 16 to study with several classical piano masters on various continents. She has been a featured soloist in concerts with orchestras at well-known performance halls in Europe and the U.S. In addition to her concert performances, master classes, and recordings she has authored three books. In 1998, she created the Fondation Résonnance, a philanthropic organization which provides free music education and concerts with the goal of bring classical music to places it would not typically reach, including orphanages, hospitals, prisons and refugee camps. In 2006, Sombart was awarded one of the highest civilian honors France can bestow, the National Order of Merit for Lifetime Achievement for her humanitarian work, and in 2008 was made a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for her artistic achievements.
