Edward William Bastard was an English first-class cricketer who played for Oxford University and Somerset. Bastard was a slow left-arm orthodox bowler,described in his Wisden obituary as Somerset's best bowler during his time with the club. Bastard was also part of the Oxford team often said to be the university's best ever.
Samuel Moses James Woods was an Australian sportsman who represented both Australia and England at Test cricket,and appeared thirteen times for England at rugby union,including five times as captain. He also played at county level in England at both soccer and hockey. At cricket—his primary sport—he played over four hundred first-class matches in a twenty-four-year career. The majority of these matches were for his county side,Somerset,whom he captained from 1894 to 1906. A. A. Thomson described him thus:"Sammy ... radiated such elemental force in hard hitting,fast bowling and electrical fielding that he might have been the forerunner of Sir Learie Constantine."
William Beaumont Burns was an English cricketer who played more than 200 first-class matches in the early 20th century,the great bulk of them for Worcestershire,for whom he filled in as captain on a number of occasions when the usual incumbents were not available. Burns' obituary in Wisden described him as a "dashing,hard-hitting batsman" but added that his bowling –which he scarcely pursued until the middle of his career –had to be considered suspect:"the fairness of his delivery was often questioned –and not without good reason".
Humphrey Adam Gilbert was an Indian-born English first-class cricketer who played in 118 matches. All of these were in England,with the majority for Worcestershire and Oxford University. Very much a specialist bowler,his Wisden obituary commented that "His qualities as a batsman [could] be gauged from the fact that in his five innings against Cambridge he scored one run." He was nicknamed Barmy Gilbert.
Frank Carroll Cobden was an English cricketer who played for Cambridge University and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). In the University Match of 1870 he famously took a hat-trick comprising the last three Oxford University batsmen when Oxford required only three more runs to win. Thus Cambridge University won by two runs a match which they had seemed certain to lose. This feat led to the 1870 match becoming known as "Cobden's Match".
Malcolm Douglas Lyon,generally known as Dar Lyon was an English first-class cricketer who played for Somerset County Cricket Club through the 1920s. He was a right-handed top order batsman known for his beautiful driving who occasionally captained and kept wicket for the county.

Bullingdon Green was a cricket ground south of Oxford,England. It was associated with the Bullingdon Club and was an important site in the early history of cricket in Oxford. The ground operated as a first-class cricket venue in 1843,hosting two first-class matches. It was subsequently built on in 1876 with the Cowley Barracks.
Hubert Frederic Garrett played first-class cricket for Somerset and for amateur sides in England in 1913 and 1914. He was born in Melbourne,Australia and died near Achi Baba,Ottoman Turkey in the Gallipoli campaign of the First World War.
