The Buccaneers-Eagles rivalry is a National Football League (NFL) rivalry between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Philadelphia Eagles. [1] [2] [3] [4] The two teams do not play each other every year; instead, they play at least once every three years and at least once every six seasons at each team's home stadium during which the NFC South and NFC East are paired up against one another. In addition, not only the two teams could meet in the playoffs in a given season, but also if the two teams finish in the same place in their respective divisions in any season, they will play each other the following season. CBS ranked this rivalry as the No. 5 rivalry of the 2000s. [5]

Early History

The Buccaneers and Eagles first met in 1977, Which the Eagles won 13–3, two years later in 1979, they would play in the divisional round of the 1979 playoffs, with the Buccaneers defeating the Eagles 24-17

2000–present: five playoff matchups

The two franchises met in the 2000 Wild Card, with the Eagles winning 21–3. They would meet the very next year in the regular season finale, which was originally a week 2 matchup, but due to 9/11, it was rescheduled for week 18. The Eagles would win 17–13, both teams were already locked into a playoff matchup the very next week in Philadelphia. The Eagles emerged victorious in the Wild card in blowout fashion to eliminate the Buccaneers and advanced to the Divisional round, where they defeated the Chicago Bears. They would go on to lose to the St. Louis Rams, led by The Greatest Show on Turf in the NFC Championship Game.

The series would not be played in the postseason again until 2021, where the Buccaneers defeated the Eagles in the Wild Card Round. They met two seasons later in 2023, the Buccaneers would win once again in the Wild card round. As of 2024, the Buccaneers lead the all-time series 13–11, and have a 4–2 playoff record.
