The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (Nepali: नेपाल कम्युनिष्ट पार्टी (एकीकृत मार्क्सवादी-लेनिनवादी); abbr. CPN (UML)) is a communist political party in Nepal. The party emerged as a major party in Nepal after the end of the Panchayat era.

General elections were held in Nepal on 20 November 2022 to elect the 275 members of the House of Representatives. As of March 2022, the party had voted in favour of Dahal government and is an important ally in the governing coalition.
Municipal election for Kathmandu took place on 13 May 2022, with all 162 positions up for election across 32 wards. The electorate elected a mayor, a deputy mayor, 32 ward chairs and 128 ward members. An indirect election will also be held to elect five female members and an additional three female members from the Dalit and minority community to the municipal executive.

Birendra Prasad Mahato is a Nepalese politician, belonging to the People's Socialist Party, Nepal currently serving as a member of the 2nd Federal Parliament of Nepal. In the 2022 Nepalese general election, he won the election from Siraha 4 (constituency). He had previously served as a member of the 2nd Constituent Assembly from the party list of Madheshi Jana Adhikar Forum.
