History

The Baca brothers, Joe, Ray, and Augustine, returned from serving in World War II in 1947, and started a grocery store known as "The Ace" Food Store. [8] [9] [10] But to compete with national chains Piggly Wiggly and Safeway, which had moved into the growing Albuquerque metropolitan area, they started to sell their mom Filomena's homecooked meals in the store. [5] [11]

In 1950, The Ace started selling frozen green chile, which had previously only been available during the Autumn roast season. They created the Bueno brand in 1951 after they introduced mass-produced tortillas for grocery stores. And in 1952, they introduced prepackaged red and green chile for grocery stores. [12]

Products

The own and distribute Grandma's Flour Tortillas brand, as well as corn tortillas. [11] They sell frozen red and green chile, and distribute chile for chain restaurants such as McDonald's. [13] They also sell salsas, pozole, and frozen foods like tamales. [14]
