Jommeke is a Belgian comic strip series in publication since 1955. It was created by Jef Nys and can be defined as a humoristic children's adventure series. Jommeke, an 11-year-old boy, is the series' main protagonist. It was originally published in Kerk en Leven, before moving to Het Volk, where it ran until the newspaper ceased to exist in 2010. It is now published in Het Nieuwsblad, De Gentenaar and De Standaard.

Pinkeltje is a fictional character from the eponymous children's book series by the Dutch writer Dick Laan. Pinkeltje is a white-bearded gnome and wears a pointed hat and is as big as a pinky finger, hence its name, meaning "fingerling" in Dutch. Twenty-nine books were published in a series between 1939 and 1977. The last four volumes appeared posthumously. A successful film was also released with the same title and based on the books.
"Ik heb een potje met vet" is a traditional song in the Dutch language. It was traditionally sung by soldiers, popularised in 1974 by the Dutch band Hydra with three verses added to the chorus, and now is very popular for singing during long walks and bus journeys. The song is also popular amongst lesbians because potje is the diminutive of the pot, originally a swearword for lesbians, but successfully reappropriated as a word for proud self-identification. It can be seen as the Dutch version of the similar English song "99 Bottles of Beer".

Her Indo father was born in the Dutch East Indies and had a mother from Madura, but was ‘repatriated’ to the Netherlands on a very young age. She married into a typically Calvinist Dutch family and lived in the port city of Rotterdam. Vuyk grew up in the Netherlands and went to her father’s land of birth in 1929 at the age of 24. 3 years later she married Fernand de Willigen, a native born Indo that worked in the oil and tea plantations throughout the Indies. They had 2 sons, both born in the Dutch East Indies.
