Buma Cultuur

The Buma Culture Foundation (stichting Buma Cultuur) is a non-profit organization that supports and promotes Dutch music. The name Buma Cultuur has existed since March 1, 2006, the foundation was formerly known as the Foundation Conamus.

Conamus was founded in 1962 by John de Mol Sr. The objective of Buma Cultuur is to promote the use of Dutch music in the Netherlands and abroad. The organization puts forward - along with many partners at home and abroad - Dutch music projects that benefit and are supported by the Dutch collecting society Buma. Buma Culture organizes annual events such as the Amsterdam Dance Event, the Noorderslag Festival, the Day of Dutch Jazz and the Musiciansday. In addition, they participate in international music conferences in order to promote and stimulate the export of Dutch music.

BUMA/STEMRA are two private organizations in the Netherlands, the Buma Association and the Stemra Foundation that operate as one single company that acts as the Dutch collecting society for composers and music publishers.

Amsterdam Dance Event

The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) is a five-day electronic music conference and festival held annually in mid-October. The event is organized by The Amsterdam Dance Event Foundation and offers a full program of daytime conferences at ADE Pro, ADE Tech, HDE, ADE University, ADE Next, ADE Beamlab and ADE Green, alongside the nighttime ADE Festival which features 450 events and 2,200 artists over five days in 115 clubs and venues. The shows attract over 350,000 people from all over the world to the city, making Amsterdam one of the busiest clubbing cities in the world.

Jerney Kaagman was the Director of the Foundation up until March 1, 2009, starting from May 4, 2009 Frank Helmink is responsible for this position.

Christina Henriette "Jerney" Kaagman is a Dutch singer musician and music executive best known as the lead singer for the progressive rock group Earth and Fire, with whom she scored a slew of international hits between 1969 and 1990. She recorded as a solo artist also, and after her career as a singer worked for the music industry, as president of the Dutch musicians' union BV Pop; as a public relations manager for a radio station; and on television, as a judge on television talent show Idols.

Besides participating in numerous radio and television programs, CD-spending, etc. to promote Dutch music, Buma Culture presents (sometimes in collaboration with partners) multiple awards to artists who have meant a lot to Dutch music.

Radio technology of using radio waves to carry information

Radio is the technology of using radio waves to carry information, such as sound and images, by systematically modulating properties of electromagnetic energy waves transmitted through space, such as their amplitude, frequency, phase, or pulse width. When radio waves strike an electrical conductor, the oscillating fields induce an alternating current in the conductor. The information in the waves can be extracted and transformed back into its original form.

Every year in February during the Harpengala the Golden Harp, the Silver Harp and the Buma Culture Export awards are presented. The Golden Harp is a lifetime achievement award for an artist who has made a significant contribution to Dutch music. The Silver Harp is an incentive prize for emerging artists. The Export Prize is an award for the most internationally successful Dutch artist. In the years 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 the export price was presented to Within Temptation. In 2007 DJ Tiësto took these honours, in 2008 it was presented to Giorgio Tuinfort along with André Rieu. In 2009 this prize was presented to André Rieu once more.

Within Temptation symphonic metal band from the Netherlands

Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal band founded in April 1996 by vocalist Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. They have always been classified by critics as gothic metal, although the "gothic" influence varies with each album. Their most prominent and well-known sound is described as symphonic metal, although their earlier material, such as debut album Enter, was mostly gothic metal, with Enter also having a hint of doom metal. In an interview, den Adel said they fell into a symphonic rock genre with various influences. In a later interview with Dutch music platform 3VOOR12, den Adel stated that "we consider ourselves more a symphonic rock band ... in my opinion, we are no gothic band".

Giorgio Tuinfort is a Surinamese-born Dutch record producer, songwriter and musician.

André Rieu Dutch violinist and conductor

André Léon Marie Nicolas Rieu is a Dutch violinist and conductor best known for creating the waltz-playing Johann Strauss Orchestra. He and his orchestra have turned classical and waltz music into a worldwide concert touring act, as successful as some of the biggest global pop and rock music acts. He resides in his native Maastricht.

Pieter Cornelis "Piet" Souer is a Dutch record producer, songwriter and arranger. His collaboration with acts made him gain twenty two gold and platinum records', one Conamus Export Prize and one 'Outstanding Song Award', thanks to his composition "Too Young To Know", performed by Anita Meyer at World Popular Song Festival in Japan in 1981.

Lots Of Luv' is the second album by Dutch girl group Luv', released in May 1979 by Philips Records/Phonogram. It features the hit singles Casanova and Eeny Meeny Miny Moe, which maintained Luv's position as the best Dutch export act of 1979. Eurosonic Noorderslag

Eurosonic Noorderslag is an annual four-day music showcase festival and conference held in January in Groningen, Netherlands. The first three days of the festival (Eurosonic) feature artists from all over Europe, the last day of the festival (Noorderslag) features only Dutch artists. The conference is held during all four days of the event. Several awards are presented during Eurosonic Noorderslag: the European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA), the European Festivals Awards, the Buma Cultuur Pop Award (Popprijs), the Pop Media Award, The Feather, the "Iron Venue and Festival Animals" and the Buma Music Meets Tech Award.

Buma Cultuur Pop Award

The Buma Cultuur Pop Award(De Popprijs) is presented each January to a person or artist for making the most important contribution to Dutch pop music during the past year. The winner is appointed by a professional jury.

Interactive Awards

The Interactive Awards are awarded to artists, bands and music organizations that use the internet in an inventive way to market (their) music. Since 2008 the Interactive Awards are presented on an annual basis during The European Music Conference and Showcase Festival Eurosonic Noorderslag in the Dutch city of Groningen. The award aims to encourage European talent and highlight artists and bands that inspire others in an interactive field. Two awards are presented at the Interactive Awards, namely the Company Award and the Artist Award. The Artist Award aims to highlight artists or bands with special online initiatives. The prize includes a gift of 5000 euro’s. The Company Award was introduced to support online (music) portals and was added to the Interactive Awards in 2010. The Interactive Awards are an initiative of internet agency theFactor.e and Dutch Music rights Foundation Buma/Stemra. The Interactive Awards are hosted by Eurosonic Noorderslag.

The Feather is an award for a person within the Dutch music industry who has made an outstanding contribution to the Dutch music product in the past year. The Feather is awarded on an annual basis during the European music conference and showcase festival Eurosonic Noorderslag in Groningen.

Jack Jersey Dutch singer, music producer, composer, lyricist, music arranger, musician

Jack (Willem) de Nijs, artist name Jack Jersey, was a Dutch singer, composer, arranger, lyricist and producer of light music who worked for national and international artists. He had his own production company, J.R. (Jeetzi-Rah) which means "Creation" / "Creational world" in Hebrew. He discovered artists such as André Moss, Nick MacKenzie and Frank & Mirella.

Jan-Bart "JB" Meijers is a Dutch multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, singer and studio engineer. He is currently a member of the Dutch-American band The Common Linnets.
