The Bungle in the jungle is an epithet, given to a cricket match played on 18 November 2003. [1] It was an "unmitigated disaster" for England. [2]

Played at the Dambulla stadium, in the Sri Lankan jungle, this One Day International is notable for the dismissal of the England cricket team for just 88 runs. [3] In the 477 One day internationals played by England, this aggregate was only two runs more than their worst display. [4] Sri Lanka achieved the 89 runs required to win in just 13.5 of their permitted 50 overs, for the loss of no wickets and a "comprehensive victory". [5] In Wisden's words, England were "battered". [6] The disastrous England score was attributed to "a flurry of misjudgments, over-ambition, and world-class fielding". [7]

The England cricket team toured Sri Lanka in February 1982. The tour included two One Day International (ODI) matches and one Test match. Sri Lanka had become a Test playing nation the year before, and this was their inaugural Test match. Many celebrations had been prepared in Sri Lanka, include the issuing of commemorative stamps and coins.

Balapuwaduge Manukulasuriya Amith Jeevan Mendis is a former Sri Lankan professional cricketer, who played limited over internationals. An all-rounder who bowls leg spin, Mendis has represented Sri Lanka in the 2012 World Twenty20 and 2015 World Cup. Domestically, he plays for Tamil Union in Sri Lanka, and he has also played for Derbyshire in England during 2017. Mendis announced his retirement from international cricket on 28 December 2021 and migrated to Australia.

He is playing Test, ODI, T20I for Sri Lanka and First class and List A in domestic arena. He studied at the Kalutara Vidyalaya. He usually fields at short cover.

Dunith Nethmika Wellalage is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer currently plays ODI cricket for the national side. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in June 2022. He was educated at St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa and St. Joseph's College, Colombo 10.
