Burning Empires is an American hardcore punk supergroup formed in 2009 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, consisting of members of Misery Signals, 7 Angels 7 Plagues and Fall Out Boy. [1] [2] They have released two EPs, in 2009 [3] [4] and 2010, respectively, [5] as well as having opened for The Amity Affliction on their 2010 Australian tour. [6]
Burning Empires have been categorized as hardcore punk [3] [7] [8] and compared to work of Darkest Hour, as well as multiple of the member's other band, Misery Signals. [9] In an interview, Ross stated that "musically I wanted to do a band in relation to Misery Signals, a more punky hardcore version of what we were doing influenced by bands like Propaghandi, Comeback Kid and Cursed" and "I find this group is more socially charged than what we’ve done in Misery Signals. A lot of my lyrics up to this point on the Burning Empires material is anti-civilization", [10] in addition to Spin Magazine describing the band as "(ripping) out a heavy, furious sound with thundering double kick drums, screeching electric guitars, and Morgan’s vicious screams". [5]
Chicago developed a hardcore punk scene in the early 1980s. Chicago Hardcore is now characterized by fast, hardcore punk rock with familiar sounds to Boston, New York, and Los Angeles hardcore. Chicago Hardcore was, and still is, characterized by fast punk beats, angry protest lyrics, and melodic singing. In addition, the Chicago hardcore sound is considered one of the pioneering sounds in the creation of post-hardcore music.
Misery Signals is an American-Canadian metalcore band formed in Wisconsin in 2002.
Andrew John Hurley is an American musician. He is the drummer for the rock band Fall Out Boy. Prior to Fall Out Boy, Hurley played in several hardcore punk bands. He joined Fall Out Boy as the full-time drummer in 2003 and was in the band's lineup until its hiatus in 2009. Following that, he formed the heavy metal supergroup The Damned Things with Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman; the group went on hiatus after its debut album, Ironiclast (2010), due to band members focusing on their original bands' new album cycles. Hurley moved on to hardcore punk band Enabler which released a debut album and toured in 2012.
"Corona" is a song by American punk rock band Minutemen. It was included as the seventh song on the second side of their third studio album Double Nickels on the Dime (1984). The song was composed by lead singer and guitarist D. Boon and produced by Ethan James. Its minimalist composition harbors elements of neo-norteño and polka. The song derives its title from Corona Extra, a brand of Mexican beer. Lyrically, "Corona" is originally a Latino-inspired protest song that contains politically charged lines. The song later became famous as the main theme song for the MTV reality stunt show Jackass.
Burning Brides were an American hard rock band. They were partially known for their live performances, such as selected dates as the opening band for The White Stripes in 2000. In 2002 they toured with …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead and Queens of the Stone Age, in 2003 with Audioslave, in 2004 with A Perfect Circle, in 2005 with Mastodon, and in 2006 with Eagles of Death Metal and Peaches. They also opened for both Melvins and Marilyn Manson in their home town of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Racetraitor is an American hardcore punk and metal band originally from Chicago, Illinois. The band attracted controversy in the late 1990s, before any releases, as a result of their radical take on racial politics, which focused on ideas like systemic racism and white privilege before they were widely discussed topics in popular or underground culture. Racetraitor was also a key proto-metalcore act being one of the first few bands to incorporate extreme metal influences, such as death metal, grindcore, and doom metal, into hardcore.
Steve Soto was an American musician. Soto was a multi-talented instrumentalist, a founding member of California punk rock band Agent Orange in 1979, and a founding member of Adolescents in 1980 performing on bass guitar in both bands. Soto was also a member of Legal Weapon, Joyride, Manic Hispanic and the punk supergroup 22 Jacks. Soto fronted his own band, Steve Soto and the Twisted Hearts and he also became a member of Punk Rock Karaoke in 2001.
Project Rocket was an American pop punk band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 2002. The band consisted of members Andy Hurley, T.J. Minch, Kyle Johnson, Noah Nickel and Seth Lingebrigtson. The members originally played in hardcore, political metalcore and punk rock bands such as Racetraitor, Spitalfield, 7 Angels 7 Plagues, Knockout, killtheslavemaster, The Kill Pill and Vegan Reich before forming Project Rocket to develop their own pop punk and emo sound.
Eternal Lord was an English deathcore band that formed in 2005 and disbanded in 2009.
Fall Out Boy is an American rock band formed in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, in 2001. The band consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, lead guitarist Joe Trohman, and drummer Andy Hurley. The band originated from Chicago's hardcore punk scene, with which all members were involved at one point. The group was formed by Wentz and Trohman as a pop punk side project of the members' respective hardcore bands, and Stump joined shortly thereafter. The group went through a succession of drummers before landing Hurley and recording the group's debut album, Take This to Your Grave (2003). The album became an underground success and helped the band gain a dedicated fanbase through heavy touring, as well as commercial success. Take This to Your Grave has commonly been cited as an influential blueprint for pop punk music in the 2000s.
The Amity Affliction is an Australian metalcore band from Gympie, Queensland, formed in 2003. The band's current line-up consists of Ahren Stringer, Joel Birch, Dan Brown (guitar) and Joe Longobardi (drums). The Amity Affliction has released seven studio albums including Severed Ties (2008), Youngbloods (2010), Chasing Ghosts (2012), Let the Ocean Take Me (2014), This Could Be Heartbreak (2016) and Misery (2018), the latter four debuting at number one on the ARIA charts. They are known for their highly personal songs, often dealing with depression, anxiety, death, substance abuse, and suicide, many lyrics stemming from vocalist Joel Birch's past struggles.
Matt Greiner, born Matthew Wilson Greiner, is an American metalcore drummer. He's most well known as a founding member for the band August Burns Red. Greiner was homeschooled as a child. Greiner cofounded the drum company Greiner&Kilmer with fellow drummer Kaleb Kilmer, which they founded in 2012. Greiner is an outspoken Christian. While Greiner is best known for his drumming, he also plays the piano.
PAX AM Days is an EP by American rock band Fall Out Boy, released on October 15, 2013 by Island Records and PAX AM. It consists of hardcore punk and punk rock influenced tracks recorded during a two-day "marathon" session with producer Ryan Adams and the band in July 2013 at PAX AM Studios. The EP was released on CD, digitally and on double 7" vinyl as a stand-alone EP, and also on a limited Save Rock and Roll PAX AM Edition (2013) double-disc reissue. The double 7" vinyl pressing was limited to 3,000, and released on November 29 as part of Record Store Day - Back to Black Friday. Each copy came with a code for a bonus song download, a cover of "New Dreams" by Naked Raygun. The code was found stamped into the dead wax of the 7". On September 30, Fall Out Boy announced the EP and its release date, as well as premiered the first digital single "Love, Sex, Death" with its accompanying video. PAX AM Days was the band's second release in 2013 after the comeback album Save Rock and Roll, and marks a return to their hardcore musical roots with aggressive guitar work, the "antithesis" to the polished Save Rock and Roll.

The song was played live on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on September 18, 2017, after being debuted at House of Blues in Chicago on September 16.
Bad Omens is an American band from Richmond, Virginia formed in 2015 by frontman Noah Sebastian, guitarist Nicholas Ruffilo, and bassist Vincent Riquier. The band later added guitarist Joakim "Jolly" Karlsson and drummer Nick Folio, releasing its critically acclaimed debut self-titled album in 2016 off Sumerian Records.
Lake Effect Kid is the ninth extended play (EP) by American rock band Fall Out Boy, released on August 23, 2018, through Island and DCD2. It is the band's second EP, and third studio release overall, to be released in 2018 following their seventh studio album Mania and eighth EP, Llamania, the latter which was released under the moniker Frosty and the Nightmare Making Machines. The EP is the first release to feature Sean O'Keefe credited as producer since the band's EP, My Heart Will Always Be the B-Side to My Tongue (2004). It consists of one re-recorded track, "Lake Effect Kid", which was originally released on the group's 2008 mixtape Welcome to the New Administration, and two unreleased tracks. The EP also sees a return to the band's older pop punk sound.
SECT is an American-Canadian vegan straight edge band formed in 2015, consisting of vocalist Chris Colohan, guitarists James Chang and Scott Crouse, bassist Steve Hart and drummer Andy Hurley. It released a self-titled debut album in 2016 and, after a signing to Southern Lord, the sophomore No Cure for Death in 2017.
