The Busan Biennale is a biannual international contemporary art show that integrated three different art events held in the city in 1998: the Busan Youth Biennale, the first Biennale of Korea that was voluntarily organized by local artists in 1981; the Sea Art Festival, an environmental art festival launched in 1987 with the sea serving as a backdrop; and the Busan Outdoor Sculpture Symposium that was first held in 1991. The Biennale was previously called the Pusan International Contemporary Art Festival (PICAF) before it launched.
Furthermore, rather than simply adhere to the white cube but chose unexpected places including culturally backward regions and old industry facilities as exhibition halls, Busan Biennale illuminates Busan city and contributes balanced development within Busan. [3]
In the example at the top, KISWIRE Suyeong factory (it is called ‘F1963’ currently) being used for special exhibition hall and main exhibition hall for Busan Biennale 2014 and Busan Biennale 2016 respectively. As of today, F1963 branded itself as one of the most famous culture complexes in Busan. [4] Also, it is considered as a model case of urban regeneration. [5]
From October 16, 2021, the "2021 Sea Art Festival" will be held at Ilgwang Beach in Gijang-gun for 30 days. In the 2021 exhibition, led by Indian director Ritika Biswas, more than 20 artists from home and abroad will participate in the production and programming in cooperation with institutions and organizations in various fields. Busan, formerly romanized as Pusan and now officially known as Busan Metropolitan City, is South Korea's second-most populous city after Seoul, with a population of over 3.4 million inhabitants. It is the economic, cultural and educational center of southeastern South Korea, with its port—Korea's busiest and the sixth-busiest in the world. The surrounding "Southeast Economic Zone" is South Korea's largest industrial area.
Biennale, Italian for "biennial" or "every other year", is any event that happens every two years. It is most commonly used within the art world to describe large-scale international contemporary art exhibitions. As such the term was popularised by Venice Biennale, which was first held in 1895. The phrase has since been used for other artistic events, such as the "Biennale de Paris", "Kochi-Muziris Biennale", or even as a portmanteau as with Berlinale and Viennale. "Biennale" is therefore used as a general term for other recurrent international events.

It is the largest art exhibition in the country and the biggest contemporary art festival in Asia. Miao Ying is a contemporary artist and writer who is based in New York City and Shanghai, best known for her projects around the Chinese internet such as The Blind Spot (2007), Chinternet Plus (2016), and online culture inside the Great Firewall. Miao Ying is the first generation of Chinese contemporary artists who grow up with internet, one-child policy and Chinese economic reform. Her works inhabit multiple forms including websites, installations, paintings, machine learning software, VR and videos; highlights the attempts to discuss mainstream technology and contemporary consciousness and its impact on our daily lives, along with the new modes of politics, aesthetics and consciousness created during the representation of reality through technology. She deliberately applies a thread of humor to her works and addresses her Stockholm Syndrome relationship with cultural and socio-political power, such as censorship and self-censorship, algorithmic filter bubbles, political lifestyle branding and ideologies in general.
