Charles W. Herndon was an American lawyer and politician from Arizona. He served a single term in the Arizona House of Representatives during the 4th Arizona State Legislature. [1]
Charles W. Herndon was born in 1877,the son of John C. Herndon,a prominent Prescott attorney,and Florence M. Wilson. The family moved to Prescott in 1883. [2] [3] When John Frank Wilson took over his role as the territorial delegate to the Fifty-sixth Congress in 1899,Herndon accompanied him as his private secretary. [4] [5]
In 1910,he moved his law practice from Prescott to Kingman. [6] [7] In 1911,Herndon ran to become the attorney for Mohave County,winning in the general election in December,in which he ran unopposed. [8] [9] In 1914,he ran for re-election,defeating S. D. Stewart in the Democrat's primary,and then easily defeating Republican Ross S. Blakely in the general election in November. [10] [11] [12] In August 1916,Herndon resigned as county attorney. [13] [14] From 1915 through 1917 Herndon was part of several groups which incorporated mining entities in Arizona. Those entities included the Arizona-Cerbat Mines Company, [15] Victor Copper Company, [16] Red Gap Gold Mines Company,Oatman Standard Mines Company, [17] and Arizona C. O. D. Mines Company. [18]
In August 1918,Herndon announced his intention to run for the Arizona State Senate seat from Mohave County. [19] In a hotly contested primary,Herndon beat out four other Democrats for the nomination,and then won November's general election. [20] [21] In 1918 and 1919 Herndon was part of the formation of three companies in Arizona,two mining and one oil development:the Arizona-Brunswick Mining Company, [22] the Chloride Tunnel Company, [23] and the Community Oil Company. [24] He ran for re-election in 1920,but lost in the Democrat's primary in September to James Curtin. [25] [26] From 1920 through 1927 he was involved in the creation of numerous other companies in Arizona,Nevada,and California,including the Silver Trails Mining Company (AZ-1920),which operated the Diamond Joe Mine in Mohave County, [27] [28] the Sickels Silver Mining Company (AZ-1920), [29] the White Hills Mining Company (AZ-1921), [30] the Cedar Mines Consolidated company (AZ-1921), [31] the River Range Mining Company (AZ-1921), [32] the Arizona-Rand Mine,Inc. (AZ-1921), [33] the Anna Jane Mining Company (AZ-1921), [34] the Signal Mines Company (NV-1922), [35] the Stoney Leasing and Mining Company (AZ-1922), [36] the Arizona Highlander Mining Company (AZ-1925), [37] and the Filimore Mining Company (CA-1927). [38] Herndon died on July 25,1927,in his mother's home in Prescott,Arizona,after being ill for several months. [3] [39]

The Congress Mine is a gold mine located at the ghost town of Congress,Arizona on the southeastern slope of the Date Creek Mountains,approximately 18 miles north-northeast of Wickenburg,Arizona at an elevation of about 3,000 feet. The nearest community,four miles away,is modern Congress,formerly known as Congress Jct railroad station or Martinez Post Office. The Congress Mine produced substantial quantities of gold and was considered one of the most productive gold mines in Arizona.

Highland Park,also known as Highland Pines,is a populated place situated near Prescott and within the Prescott National Forest,in Yavapai County,Arizona,United States. Highland Pines is the promotional name associated with the Highland Park areas several subdivisions. In the Arizona Territorial era up to 1912,and Statehood until around the late 1920s,this particular area of land acted as a cattle ranch with a mining history,lies within the Thumb Butte Mining District,which appears to be initially platted by the Arizona Corporation Highland Pine Properties Inc. beginning in the late 1950s.
William G. Blakely was an American miner,lawyer,and a Methodist minister. He served as a district attorney,judge,and legislator in Arizona,where he lived the majority of his life.

Ernest R. Hall (1880-1959) was an Arizona politician who served a single term in the Arizona State Senate during the 3rd Arizona State Legislature. He ran several other times for the state legislature,mostly for the State Senate,but once for the State House of Representatives. He also ran three times for Arizona Secretary of State,winning in the 1920 election. Other offices he held were justice of the peace and postmaster,both in the Salome,Arizona area. He was a combat veteran of World War I,and was a very successful farmer in Maricopa County for several decades.
William P. Mahoney was an American lawyer and politician who served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1915 to 1916 and in the Arizona Senate from 1917 to 1918,as a member of the Democratic Party. After his tenure in the state legislature he served as the sheriff of Mohave County,Arizona.
Mohave County Miner was a newspaper,founded by Anson H. Smith,which began operations on November 5,1882,in Mineral Park,Arizona,in the back room of Hyde's Drug Store. It replaced The Alta Arizona,a magazine which had begun the preceding year. The paper was printed on one of the first Chicago stop-cylinder presses ever manufactured,and consisted of seven columns. Smith won enough money playing faro from Judge James Reed Russell to erect the newspaper's building on Beale Street. In 1885,Smith moved to Kingman,Arizona and started another paper,the Walapai Tribune. He sold his interest in the Miner to James J. Hyde in 1886. Hyde was editor in 1886 and 1887,when the paper moved operations to Kingman. Smith repurchased the paper in 1891,and took over both as editor and publisher. While remaining the publisher of the paper,Minnie A. Sawyer became the editor in 1895. She remained editor until 1917,when Smith once again resumed those duties.
Noble Hamilton Getchell (1875-1960) was an American miner and politician from Nevada. He served five consecutive terms in the Nevada State Senate from 1922 through 1942. He also served in the Arizona State Senate from 1917 through 1918,during the 3rd Arizona State Legislature. He was the chairman of the Nevada Republican Committee for 12 years,followed by 13 years as the National Committeeman for the Republicans in Nevada. He was in the mining field,doing exploration and development in Alaska,Colorado,Arizona,Washington,and most significantly in Nevada. The mineral Getchellite is named after him,and for several decades,until its demolition in 2013,the library at the University of Nevada was named after him.
Anthony A. Johns was an American politician from Arizona. He served a single term in the Arizona State Senate during the 4th Arizona State Legislature,holding one of the two seats from Yavapai County,as well as serving as President of the Senate. He also held one of the seats from Yavapai County in the Arizona House of Representatives three times,in the 2nd,3rd and 13th Arizona State Legislatures,serving as the Speaker of the House during the 3rd Legislature. He was a long-time resident of Prescott,and one of the largest sheepherders in Yavapai County. Other business interests included mining and construction. Other offices held included a regent for the University of Arizona,chairman of the Arizona Highway Commission,chief of the Prescott Fire Department,president of the Arizona Wool Growers Association,and vice-president of the National Wool Growers Association.
Charles Payne Hicks was an American politician from Arizona. He served a single term in the Arizona State Senate during the 4th Arizona State Legislature,holding one of the two seats from Yavapai County.
Celora Martin Stoddard was an American politician from Arizona. He served a single term in the Arizona State Senate during the 5th Arizona State Legislature,holding one of the two seats from Maricopa County. He ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for governor in 1928. A World War I veteran,he helped establish the first American Legion post in Arizona in 1919,and became its first commander. He would later be selected the Legion's state commander,and also served a term as the national vice-commander of the organization. He was well known in the mining industry in Arizona.
James Curtin was an American politician from Arizona. He served a single term in the Arizona State Senate during the 5th Arizona State Legislature,holding the seat from Mohave County. He also served as the deputy sheriff of Mohave County. Outside of politics,he was involved in mining and ranching.
Kean St. Charles was an American politician from Arizona. He served several terms in the Arizona State Senate during the 6th,7th Arizona State Legislatures,9th Arizona State Legislature,and 11th Arizona State Legislatures holding the seat from Mohave County. He also served in Arizona House of Representatives during the 21st and 22nd Arizona Territorial Legislatures. He also served in the upper house of the Territorial Legislature,called the council,during the last session before statehood.
