The CCHA Defenseman of the Year is an annual award given out after the conclusion of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular season to the best defenseman in the conference as voted by the coaches of each CCHA team. [1] The conference previously awarded two separate individual awards, Best Defensive Defenseman and Best Offensive Defenseman, which were merged to form this solitary award.

Hunwick was born in Warren, Michigan, but grew up in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Matt is the older brother of Shawn Hunwick.

The Falcons have won one NCAA Division I championship, coming in 1984, defeating the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs in the longest championship game in the tournament's history.

The NCHC Scholar-Athlete of the Year is an annual award given out at the conclusion of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference regular season to the best defensive forward in the conference. Each team selects a player from their own roster to be on the conference Scholar-Athlete Team. The coaches of each NCHC team then vote to determine the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The 2021–22 Minnesota State Mavericks men's ice hockey season was the 53rd season of play for the program. They represented Minnesota State University, Mankato in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season and for the 1st season in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). They are coached by Mike Hastings, in his 10th season, and play their home games at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.

The CCHA Forward of the Year is an annual award given out after the conclusion of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular season to the best forward in the conference as voted by the coaches of each CCHA team. The award was a new creation by the conference in its return to play.
