The Center for Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT) was Established in 2003 as The Main Structure in the SUNY Stony Brook University Research and Development Park, [1] [2] [3] They opened the new and current building in March 2009 [4]

Contents

As of 2023 the center has over 70 associated faculty members, and more than 200 Ph.D./M.S. students conducting research. [4] [3]

Research areas

"The Center’s research areas are diverse, [with] research topics [that] range from materials to components to systems and address devices and communications, networking, software systems, and solutions/applications for vertical markets." - [2] [3] [4]

Events

Radar Science Summer School: On July 22, 2023, CEWIT hosted 25 Under Graduate Student From the U.S. & abroad for their first ever Radar Science Summer School. [5]

Hack@CEWIT: An annual student event run by CEWIT, [6] [7] [8] [9] where More than 300 college students from across the U.S. take part in a 43-hour hackathon. [10] The 2023 Hackathon was the 7th Annual Hackathon with the theme Hacking a Sustainable Future. [9] [10]

It originally opened in July 1963 and has massively expanded since its original construction. The library was dedicated to Melville in 1971.

Samuel L. Stanley Jr. is an American educator and biomedical researcher. He was the President of Michigan State University from 2019 until November 2022, and he was the President of Stony Brook University from 2009 to 2019. Stanley is one of the founding directors of the Midwest Regional Center of Excellence for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases Research.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Undergraduate Student Government at Stony Brook University</span>

The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) at Stony Brook University is a governing body representing the undergraduate students of Stony Brook University. As with most student governments in the United States, one of USG's main functions is to recognize, fund and regulate student organizations. The USG is composed of an executive and a legislative branch; a judicial branch existed until a constitutional amendment removed it in 2019. Along with the Graduate Student Organization, USG is the only other organization authorized to distribute the Student Activity Fee (SAF) in a viewpoint-neutral manner. In accordance with State University of New York Policies and Procedures, the mandatory SAF provides the USG with an annual budget of approximately $3.1 million, independently of the state budget.

The Renaissance School of Medicine (RSOM) is the graduate medical school of Stony Brook University located in the hamlet of Stony Brook, New York on Long Island. Founded in 1971, RSOM is consistently ranked the top public medical school in New York according to U.S. News & World Report. RSOM is one of the five Health Sciences schools under the Stony Brook Medicine healthcare system.

Stony Brook University is the largest residential campus in the State University of New York system, with approximately 54.5% of its students living on campus. Arie E. Kaufman is an Israeli-American computer scientist best known for his work in volume visualization and virtual reality. Dr. Kaufman is Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science at Stony Brook University, where he is also Director of the Center for Visual Computing (CVC), and Chief Scientist at the Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT). He has an H-Index of 84 and is currently the ninth most cited researcher in the world working in the area of visualization.

The Simons Foundation is an American private foundation established in 1994 by Marilyn and Jim Simons with offices in New York City. As one of the largest charitable organizations in the United States with assets of over $5 billion in 2022, the foundation's mission is to advance the frontiers of research in mathematics and the basic sciences. The foundation supports science by making grants to individual researchers and their projects.

David Olmstead Conover is an American marine biologist and professor in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University. He was the Vice President for Research at Stony Brook University and operations manager for the SUNY Research Foundation, and until his retirement in 2020 he was Vice President for Research and Innovation at the University of Oregon. He is known for his research on the ecology of marine fishes and fisheries. His son is Adam Conover, host of Adam Ruins Everything, and his daughter is Emily Conover, scientific journalist at Science News.

David Ferguson (1949–2019) was a Distinguished Service Professor and Provost's Scholar at Stony Brook University.

Heather J. Lynch is an Associate Professor of Ecology and Evolution at Stony Brook University. She is a 2019 laureate of the Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists and a National Geographic Explorer. Lynch uses satellite remote sensing, field work and mathematical models to better understand the population dynamics of the penguins of the Antarctic Peninsula.

Joanne Davila is a clinical psychologist known for her research on the romantic relationships and mental health of adolescents and adults, including the impact of social media use on relationships and well being. She is a Professor and Associate Director of Clinical Training int the Department of Psychology, at Stony Brook University.

Yejin Choi is the Brett Helsel Professor of Computer Science at the University of Washington. Her research considers natural language processing and computer vision. Choi was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in 2022.

Maurizio Del Poeta is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Stony Brook University Renaissance School of Medicine. His research focuses on novel anti-fungal drug discovery and lipid-mediated fungal pathogenesis.

Marci Lobel is a health psychologist known for her research on women's reproductive health, effects of prenatal stress on pregnancy and newborn health, and how mothers learn to cope with stress.
