CHI Health (formerly Alegent Health) is a regional healthcare network headquartered in Omaha. The combined organization consists of 28 hospitals, two stand-alone behavioral health facilities, and more than 150 employed physician practices in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and North Dakota. CHI Health is part of CommonSpirit Health and is legally designated a non-profit organization.
Alegent Health was created in 1996, resulting from the merger between the Lutheran Immanuel Medical Center and the Catholic Bergan Mercy Medical Center under the Community Health Vision. Also merged were Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and two regional health partners, Corning and Schuyler, each retaining their religious affiliations. In 1997, Midlands Hospital was also absorbed.
In 2012, Alegent acquired Creighton University Medical Center and renamed it as Alegent Creighton Health. Also in 2012, Immanuel left the Alegent partnership to focus on its senior programs and Alegent became solely sponsored by Catholic Health Initiatives. [2] In 2014, Alegent Creighton Health merged with CHI Nebraska and was renamed CHI Health. [3]
In February 2019, parent company CHI merged with Dignity Health, forming CommonSpirit Health, [4] the second-largest nonprofit hospital chain in the United States. [5]

Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) St. Alexius Health Bismarck is a regional, acute care medical center offering inpatient and outpatient medical services, including primary and specialty physician clinics, home health and hospice services, medical equipment services, and a fitness and human performance center. It is a level II trauma center. With a tertiary hospital in Bismarck, the system also consists of critical access hospitals (CAHs) in Carrington, ND, Dickinson, ND, Devils Lake, ND, Garrison, ND, Turtle Lake, ND, Washburn, ND and Williston, ND, and numerous clinics and outpatient services. CHI St. Alexius Health manages four CAHs in North Dakota - Elgin, ND, Linton, ND and Wishek, ND, as well as Mobridge Regional Medical Center in Mobridge, South Dakota.
Virginia Mason Medical Center is an integrated hospital, training and research facility located in Seattle, Washington, USA. It was the founding location, in 1920, of the private, non-profit Virginia Mason health organization; in January 2021, the Virginia Mason organization merged with CHI Franciscan to form Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, under the parent company CommonSpirit Health. One of the few Catholic hospitals in Utah for over a century was sold by the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1994 to the for-profit institution, HealthTrust. However, Salt Lake Regional Medical Center is now Holy Cross Hospital — Salt Lake after being bought by CommonSpirit Health Network in early 2023. This completes transitioning the name back to its original founding form.
Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy is a hospital located in Central Omaha, Nebraska in the United States. On April 24, 2012, CUMC signed an agreement to be part of the Alegent Health System during the summer of 2012. The CUMC-Saint Joseph Hospital closed June 9, 2017 while simultaneously the academic medical center and trauma services opened at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center – Bergan Mercy. The building has been remodeled into apartments by NuStyle Development, and opened in June 2018. The apartment complex is now called "The Atlas".

The Creighton University School of Medicine is the graduate medical school at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, United States, and grants the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. It was founded in 1892. A satellite campus opened in 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, becoming the first Jesuit medical program west of Omaha.
