CISV International (FormerlyChildren's International Summer Villages) was founded in 1950 [2] by Dr. Doris Twitchell Allen and aims to educate and inspire action for a more just and peaceful world.

Contents

The organisation operates international educational programmes on an annual basis to bring together participants from member countries. CISV also operates in large cities and in smaller communities through its around 200 local Chapters in 69 countries. [3]

CISV International is a UNESCO partner and a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), it holds participatory status with the Council of Europe and is a candidate member of the European Youth Forum. [4]

History

CISV was founded in 1950, after World War II, by Dr. Doris Twitchell Allen. Since then, the organisation has expanded into around 69 countries, and over 300,000 delegates have participated in more than seven thousand international CISV activities that delegates have made up over the course of these years. [2] [5]

The first village was held in 1951 in Glendale, Ohio; commissioned for its 50th anniversary, the sculpture "How Alike I Am to You” was created in 2000 by Tim Werrell and stands on the property of the Harry Whiting Brown Community Center in Glendale, Ohio.

CISV International, National Associations and Chapters

The International Office of CISV is located in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The Secretary General of the organization is based there, along with a small team of officers and administrative staff.

CISV International is an umbrella organization, with 68 countries or National Associations (NAs). Each NA oversees and supports its local branches or Chapters. CISV USA is the largest National Association with 27 chapters.

The NAACP Youth Council is a branch of the NAACP in which youth are actively involved. In past years, council participants organized under the council's name to make major strides in the Civil Rights Movement. Started in 1935 by Juanita E. Jackson, special assistant to Walter White and the first NAACP Youth secretary, the NAACP National Board of Directors formally created the Youth and College Division in March 1936.

M. M. Jacob, in full Mundakkal Mathew Jacob, was an Indian politician, working in Indian National Congress. He married Achamma Kunnuthara from Tiruvalla, Kerala and had four daughters. He was appointed Governor of Meghalaya in 1995 and again in 2000 for a second term. He also discharged the function of the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh as well for some time in 1996. He is longest serving governor of any Indian state. He served for more than 11 years.
