COP International, also shortened to COP Int'l., is a music label based in Oakland, California. [1]
Initially, the label was founded in 1991 by Christian Petke (a.k.a. Count Zero of Deathline Int'l.) in Frankfurt, Germany. A few months later, Kim X, his girlfriend, opened a branch office in Oakland. [1]
The first label full-length release was the California Cyber Crash Compilation. [1] Most of the involved artists, such as Diatribe, Battery, Kode IV, Consolidated, Biohazard PCB (a.k.a. Contagion), Deathline Intl. and Switchblade Symphony, became very popular in the 1990s Electro-industrial scene.
Other leading label groups were Index, Pulse Legion, Unit:187, Pain Emission and The Razor Skyline. [2] [3]
Diatribe was an American industrial rock group from San Jose, California, active in the 1990s. They had a sound similar to 16 Volt and Chemlab, integrating synthesizers and vocal samples with more traditional rock instruments. The band's full-length debut Diatribe was released by Cargo Music and Re-Constriction Records on November 3, 1996.
Therapy is the debut EP of Diatribe, released in 1991 by Eight One Nine Productions. It was reissued by COP International later that year.
Maria Azevedo is an American musician based in San Francisco, best recognized as the lead vocalist of the 1990s electro-industrial outfits Battery and Ivoux. She also collaborated with Deathline Int'l., Razor Skyline and Vampire Rodents.
Slave Unit is an American industrial rock group based in Oakland, California, United States. The original incarnation consisted of Torsten Hartwell, Mike Paikos, Alan Sartirana and Mike Welch before becoming Welch's solo endeavor in 1995. Their sound is influenced by hardcore punk, industrial and hip hop music with lyrics pertaining to observations and reflections of human behavior and error. The band released their debut Slave Unit on COP International in 1996.
Deathline International are an American industrial rock group based in Oakland, California, known for experimenting with multiple electronic music styles. The original nucleus of the band comprised composers Shawn Brice and Christian Petke.
