The CSMSS College of Polytechnic is a technical-education institute in the city of Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India. [1] It was established in 2009 with 5 diploma programs and a sanctioned intake of 390 students. The institute is affiliated with the MSBTE and managed by the CSMSS. The college takes its name from a ruler of the Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj. It has been accredited by the DTE. [2]

The Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Shikshan Sanstha (CSMSS) ("Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Institute of Education") was established in 1986 and was named after a renowned ruler and social worker of the Maratha Empire - Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj.

Shahu of the Bhonsle dynasty of Marathas was a Raja and the first Maharaja (1900–1922) of the Indian princely state of Kolhapur. Rajarshi Shahu was considered a true democrat and social reformer. Shahu Maharaj was an able ruler who was associated with many progressive policies during his rule. From his coronation in 1894 till his demise in 1922, he worked for the cause of the lower caste subjects in his state. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, founder of Maratha empire in western India in 1664, was well known for his forts. Many, like Panhala Fort and Rajgad, existed before him but others, like Sindhudurg and Pratapgad, were built by him from scratch. Also, the fort of Raigad was built as the place of throne, i.e., the capital, of Maratha Empire by Hirojee Indulkar on the orders of the Chhatrapati. This is the place where Shivaji was crowned and today also his Samadhi (shrine) stands in front of the Jagadishwar temple. These forts were central to his empire and their remains are among the foremost sources of information about his rule. The French missionary Father Fryer witnessed the fortifications of Gingee, Madras, built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj after its conquest, and appreciated his technical know-how and knowledge.

Shahu II is the 12th descendent of Shivaji and the great-grandson of Shahu I of Kolhapur and the son and heir to Shahaji II of Kolhapur. Being an excellent specimen of Indian architecture built in black polished stone, it has been an attraction for tourists. It has extensive premises with a garden, fountain and wrestling ground. The whole building is eight-angled and has a tower in the middle. The clock on it was fixed in 1877. At separate distances there are small towers. On every glass are painted the events of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's life, the founder of Maratha Empire. There is a zoo and a ground lake. Even today, it is the residence of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaja, the direct descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja.
