The CT-Cyber Crime Investigation, former Cyber Security & Crime Division, commonly known as the Cyber Crime Unit, [1] [2] [3] [4] is a division of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime is operated under Dhaka Metropolitan Police of Bangladesh Police. [5] [6] [7] The main function of this division is to counter terrorism in cyber space. It also patrol, prevent, detect and investigate cyber-terrorism and cyber-crime in Dhaka Metropolitan. History

This division commenced its operation on 3 May 2016. [13] [14] [15] Amidst the rise of cyber crimes and cyber bullying in Bangladesh, [16] [17] [18] [19] the policy makers took initiative to launch this dedicated Cyber Crime Division for Dhaka Metropolitan that will address digital crimes including online harassment, hacking, Financial Fraud Crime and many more. [20] [21] The agency has renamed their name "Cyber Crime Investigation Division" on 10 July 2020 [22]

Organization

Headquartered in 36 Minto Road, Ramna, Dhaka, [23] the division works under one Deputy Commissioner of Police. [24] [25] He is assisted by two Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police. They supervise four teams, namely:

  1. Internet Referral;
  2. Cyber Terrorism Investigation;
  3. Digital Forensic and
  4. E-fraud Investigation.

Each of these teams are led by one Assistant Commissioner of Police. The total strength sanctioned for this division is very limited and is only 100.

Services

The Cyber Division services by its Help Desk, over hotline number, e-mail, Hello CT apps and different social media platforms. [26] [27] [28] [29] [30]

The Help Desk of Cyber Division is a unique innovation for instantly helping the cyber victims of Dhaka Metropolitan. [31] [32] [33]

Awards

In 2017 one of the ADC Md Najmul Islam was awarded with Bangladesh Police Medal (service). [34]

On 12 December 2018 this division was awarded with Digital Bangladesh Award 2018. [35]

On Police Week 2019 DC Md Alimuzzaman was awarded with Bangladesh Police Medal (service) and ADC A F M Al Kibria, ADC Sayed Nasirullah & Ishtiaque Ahmed were awarded with President Police Medal (service). [36]


On Police Week 2020 SP Mishuk Chakma, AC Dhruba Joetirmoya Gope and Inspector Md Rafiqul Islam was awarded with Bangladesh Police Medal (service). [37]

Cyber Crime Investigating Agencies in Bangladesh

Besides this division Cyber Police Center, CID; Cyber Branch, Police Bureau of Investigation and Cyber & Special Crime Division, DB, DMP are responsible to investigate cyber crime in Bangladesh.

Confusion & Controversy

Though not the CT-Cyber Crime Investigation but Cyber & Special Crime Division, DB, DMP arrested Director Anonno Mamun and actor Shaheen Mridha over content the police deemed offensive in the movie Nabab LLB. This was criticized by Nurul Alam Atique, noted filmmaker, as a threat to free speech and artistic freedom. [38] [39]

Dhaka Attack is a Bangladeshi police action thriller film produced by Bangladesh Police Paribar Kallyan Samity Ltd., Three Wheelers Ltd. and Splash Multimedia. It features Arifin Shuvoo, Mahiya Mahi, ABM Sumon and Taskeen Rahman in lead roles. It was directed by Dipankar Dipon and written by Sunny Sanwar. Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime -CTTC is a specialized branch of Bangladesh Police formed to tackle terrorism and transnational crime. Deputy Inspector General Md. Asaduzzaman bpm (bar) is the chief of the branch.

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) is a specialized unit of the Bangladesh Police that performs a criminal investigation and digital forensic service by the order of honorable court, police headquarters and the request of other police units. They investigate homicides, crime against property, sexual assaults, arson, cyber crime, and other crimes. Additional Inspector General Banaj Kumar Majumder BPM(Bar), PPM is the chief of the PBI.

A series of public protests in Bangladesh advocating improved road safety were held from 29 July to 9 August 2018. They were sparked by the deaths of two high-school students in Dhaka struck by a bus operated by an unlicensed driver who was racing to collect passengers. Misha Sawdagor stars as Victor, a gangster trying to steal the password. Shabnom Bubly features as Rudra's love interest, Dr. Shabnom. The movie is loosely based on the 2010 French movie Point Blank.

Shafiqul Islam is a retired police officer who served as the 34th Police commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He was made the DMP commissioner on 14 September 2019. He previously served as the chief of the Criminal Investigation Department.

<i>Nabab LLB</i> 2020 Bangladeshi legal drama film directed by Anonno Mamun

Nabab LLB is a Bangladeshi legal drama film. The film is directed and written by Anonno Mamun, and produced by Azmat Hossain under the banner of Celebrity Production. It is a courtroom drama based on rape and violence against women. The film depicts the story of raped women protesting for their rights through social protests and judicial system. The film revolves around a rape victim Shuvra who is a radio jockey by profession, with Shakib Khan, who fought a legal battle in the court as her chief lawyer, Mahiya Mahi and Shahiduzzaman Selim played in the lead roles. The film soundtrack is composed by Dolaan Maainnakk, previously she collaborate with Khan in Bhaijaan Elo Re in 2018.

Biplob Kumar Sarker is a Bangladeshi police officer. He is currently Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. Earlier he served as Additional Deputy Inspector General of Bangladesh Police Dhaka Range. In addition he achieved the title of best DC of DMP several times.

Khandker Golam Faruq is a Bangladeshi police officer and an Additional Inspector General of Police of Bangladesh Police. He served as the 35th Commissioner of DMP. Prior to join here, he was the 13th Rector of Police Staff College Bangladesh. Before that he served as Principal of Bangladesh Police Academy, Sardah, Rajshahi. He is a former Deputy Inspector General of Chittagong Range of Bangladesh Police.
