Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime -CTTC is a specialized branch of Bangladesh Police formed to tackle terrorism and transnational crime. Deputy Inspector General Md. Asaduzzaman bpm (bar) is the chief of the branch. [1] [2] [3]
Bangladesh Police recommended the formation of a special unit, called Police Bureau of Counter-Terrorism, in August 2011 to the Home ministry. In September 2013, the Home Ministry sent it to the Ministry of Public Administration. A rise in terror attacks in 2015 increased demand for the unit. On 16 February 2016 Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police was formed with 600 personnel. [4] In March 2017 it carried out a raid in Sitakunda, Chittagong leading to the death of two militants. [5] It provided support to Operation Twilight by 1st Para-Commando Battalion of Bangladesh Army on 25 March 2017. [6]
CTTC has Seven Divisions.
The SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) is another elite tactical unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police which was established on 28 February 2009. SWAT is operated under the Special Action Group of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The CT-Cyber Crime Investigation, former Cyber Security & Crime Division, popularly known as the Cyber Crime Unit, is a branch of Bangladesh Police which is operated under the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. The main function of this division is to prevent, patrol, detect and investigate cyber-terrorism and cyber-crime in Dhaka.
Special Branch is a label customarily used to identify units responsible for matters of national security and intelligence in British, Commonwealth, Irish, and other police forces. A Special Branch unit acquires and develops intelligence, usually of a political or sensitive nature, and conducts investigations to protect the State from perceived threats of subversion, particularly terrorism and other extremist political activity.

The SWAT was formed to recover illegal arms and arrest hardcore terrorists and has a vital role in neutralizing any and all threats.
The Federal Investigation Agency is a border control, criminal investigation, counter-intelligence and security agency under the control of the Interior Secretary of Pakistan, tasked with investigative jurisdiction on undertaking operations against terrorism, espionage, federal crimes, smuggling as well as infringement and other specific crimes.
The Para Commando Brigade is a special operations force of the Bangladesh Army. This special forces brigade is headquartered at Jalalabad Cantonment, Sylhet. It is composed of two para commando battalions.
The 2017 South Surma Upazila bombings was a combined police and army raid of a suspected militant hideout in South Surma Upazila, Sylhet, Bangladesh on 25 March 2017. During the raid, the militants targeted the Bangladesh Armed Forces who were surrounding the militant occupied compound in Sylhet. There were two suicide bombings which killed four civilians and two police officers and wounded more than 40, some critically. An army lieutenant colonel later died from his injuries. Bombs exploded and gunfire was reported when the military launched Operation Twilight to clear the militant hideout. ISIL claimed responsibility however, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal denied the claims of ISIL and blamed the local Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh for the attacks. Finally the Bangladesh Army neutralised four militants at the suspected hideout.
The Armed Police Battalion is a specialised combat unit of the Bangladesh Police. It is headquartered in Dhaka. The unit has 11 battalions under its command and the Special Security and Protection Battalion has two battalions. Airport Armed Police Battalion is responsible for protecting the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The Government Ministries are relatively small and merely policy-making organizations, allowed to control agencies by policy decisions. Some of the work of the government is carried out through state enterprises or limited companies.

The main function of this division is to counter terrorism in cyber space. It also patrol, prevent, detect and investigate cyber-terrorism and cyber-crime in Dhaka Metropolitan.
Md. Monirul Islam is an Additional Inspector General of the Police of Bangladesh Police and head of the Special Branch.
Asaduzzaman Mia, is a retired police officer who served as the 33rd Police commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, the longest serving commissioner and the former chief executive officer of National Security Affairs Cell under the Cabinet Division. During his tenure as DMP Commissioner, Dhaka Metropolitan Police was considered to be at its peak.
