The two teams have met 38 times on the football field, with McNeese currently holding a 20–16–2 edge in the all time series. Originally an annual series, the game has been less frequently played since McNeese moved from the NCAA's Division I-A to Division I-AA in 1982.

Founded in 1939 as Lake Charles Junior College, it was renamed McNeese Junior College after John McNeese, an early local educator. The present name was adopted in 1970. The team plays its home games at the 7,408 seat Strawberry Stadium in Hammond, Louisiana. The Lions are coached by Frank Scelfo.

The Lamar Cardinals football program represents Lamar University in college football at the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision level. The Cardinals are members of the Southland Conference and play their home games in the 16,000 seat Provost Umphrey Stadium. The Cardinals left the Southland Conference in July 2021 to join the Western Athletic Conference, which relaunched its football league at the FCS level during the 2021 season. After one season in the WAC, Lamar and the Southland Conference announced on July 11, 2022 Lamar's accelerated return to the Southland Conference effective immediately.

The Battle for the Ol' School Bell was an rivalry between the Troy State Trojans and the Jacksonville State Gamecocks when the two schools started playing together in Division II. The series continued as the Trojans moved to the FCS, with the Gamecocks moving to the FCS soon after. The series came to a halt when Troy moved to what is now the FBS. However, with Jacksonville State moving to the FBS and Conference USA in 2023, the rivalry may be renewed again in the near future. The idea for a school bell trophy stemmed from the two schools' common origins as teachers' colleges.

The 2012 Central Arkansas Bears football team represented the University of Central Arkansas in the 2012 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Bears were led by 13th year head coach Clint Conque and played their home games at Estes Stadium. They were a member of the Southland Conference. They finished the season 9–3, 6–1 in Southland play to share the conference championship with Sam Houston State. Due to their victory over Sam Houston State, the Bears received the Southland's automatic bid into the FCS Playoffs where they lost in the second round to Georgia Southern.

The Cypress Mug is the name of the turned, polished mahogany mug that was awarded to the winner of the annual football game between the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns and the Southeastern Louisiana Lions. The two teams have met 40 times on the football field, with the Ragin' Cajuns currently holding a 21–17–3 edge in the all time series. The rivalry had been inactive since the Ragin' Cajuns' move from the NCAA's Division I-AA to Division I-A; however the two teams played each other in 2017 in Lafayette for the first time since 1981, resulting in a 51–48 Cajuns victory and played again for the Ragin' Cajuns' home opener in 2022.

The Sabine Shoe is the name of the bronze shoe trophy that was awarded to the winner of the annual college football game between the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in Lafayette, Louisiana and the Lamar Cardinals of Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. The Sabine Shoe trophy was first awarded in 1968 by the University of Southwestern Louisiana's chapter of Alpha Phi Omega fraternity. The name of the bronze rivalry trophy was derived from the Sabine River that forms part of the Texas–Louisiana border. USL defeated Lamar in the 1978 edition of the rivalry game, but the Ragin' Cajuns were not awarded the trophy as it had vanished. The Sabine Shoe trophy now sits in at trophy case in the Ragin' Cajun Athletic Complex in Lafayette.

The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football program is a college football team that represents the University of Louisiana at Lafayette at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. Since 1971, the team has played its home games at Cajun Field in Lafayette, Louisiana. Michael Desormeaux has served as Louisiana's head coach since 2021.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Louisiana–Louisiana Tech football rivalry</span> American college football rivalry

The Louisiana–Louisiana Tech football rivalry is an inactive American college football rivalry between the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. The two teams have met 87 times on the football field, with Louisiana Tech currently holding a 48–33–6 lead in the all-time series. After a handful of early meetings, they played virtually every year from 1924 to 2000. The yearly game ended following the Bulldogs' transition to the Western Athletic Conference and the Ragin' Cajuns' to the Sun Belt Conference. They have met four times since, and continue to play each other in other sports.
