Calaguas Island in Camarines Norte

Calaguas, also known as Calaguas Islands, is a group of islands located in the Philippine province of Camarines Norte. It includes the major islands of Tinaga Island and Guintinua Island, the minor Maculabo Island, as well as several other minor. The group of islands is around 200 km away from the capital city of Manila and can be accessed through the ports at Paracale and Daet, Camarines Norte. [1]

Most of the islands are under the administrative jurisdiction of Vinzons, while the minor island of Maculabo is under the jurisdiction of the municipality of Paracale. Recently, the island of Tinaga, where the well-known long beach called Mahabang Buhangin [2] is located, is experiencing an influx of tourists despite the absence of accommodation. Campers and backpackers visit Mahabang Buhangin to experience its powdery white sands.

The recent popularity of Calaguas Island has brought many tourists and travelers, especially during the summer. This has worried some of the natives and locals that increased tourism and the 2018 Boracay closure and redevelopment might lead to the detriment of the island's peace and serenity. [3] This is why the local government has created a program that will hold everyone responsible for taking care of Calaguas Island. Waste management and boat traffic are among the top concerns of the local government. [4]

With the local community's effort is to safeguard and protect the well-being of the island. Big and small tour operators are encouraged to preserve the quiet and peaceful nature of Calaguas Island. Most small and local tour island operators such as Calaguas Local and other tour operators are helping the community move towards better local eco-tourism in the island.

Tinaga

Tinaga is an island located in the municipality of Vinzons, Camarines Norte in the Philippines. It is one of the two major islands in the Calaguas Group of Islands, about eight kilometers long. Tinaga island is famous for its long white sand beach called Mahabang Buhangin, which literally means "long beach". The beach is becoming popular among backpackers and campers from Manila and elsewhere. Tinaga Island was voted by one of the world's leading accounting firms, PWC, as #1 in their top ten up and coming tourist destinations in their Philippines gems report.Tinaga Island Resorts Inc. recently launched the first ever security token (STO) offering of prime beach front land on Mahabang Buhangin.

Guintinua is one of the two major islands in the Calaguas group. It is located in Vinzons, Camarines Norte, Philippines, and is part of the Barangay Banocboc. The island is the second largest in the Calaguas group, measuring almost 6.5 km (4.0 mi) long.

Maculabo is an island of the Calaguas group of islands in Camarines Norte province of the Philippines. Although part of the Calaguas group, the island is under the jurisdiction of the municipality of Paracale, Camarines Norte. The island serves as a major stop-over going to Tinaga Island where the well-known long beach Mahabang Buhangin is located. The island is about four kilometres (2.5 mi) long. Locals reside on parts of the Island with farming and fishing as their main source of income.

2018 Boracay closure and redevelopment

On April 26, 2018, the Philippine resort island of Boracay, one of the country's major tourist destinations, was temporarily closed to the general public as part of the government's efforts to rehabilitate and redevelop the island. As part of the closure, Boracay was closed for six months except to its registered residents and employees.

Local elections in the Philippines took place on May 9, 2022. These were conducted together with the 2022 general election for national positions. All elected positions above the barangay (village) level but below the regional level were disputed. The following 18,180 positions will be disputed:
