Caleb Kaimi Kaleipomaikai Lomavita (born November 18,2002) is an American professional baseball catcher in the Washington Nationals organization.
Lomavita attended Saint Louis School in Honolulu,Hawaii,where he played baseball. He was named the Gatorade Hawaii Baseball Player of the year after his senior season in 2021. [1] He attended the MLB Draft Combine,but went unselected in the 2021 Major League Baseball draft and enrolled at the University of California,Berkeley,to play college baseball for the California Golden Bears. [2]
As a freshman for Cal in 2022,Lomavita appeared in 55 games and hit .272 with seven home runs and 46 RBI. [3] After the season,he played collegiate summer baseball with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League,and was named a league all-star. [4] [5] As a sophomore in 2023,he batted .316 with 16 home runs and 43 RBI over 48 games. [6] He returned to play for Cotuit and was named an All-Star for the second consecutive season. [7] [8] Lomavita opened the 2024 season as a top prospect for the upcoming MLB draft. [9] [10] Over 55 games,he batted .322 with 15 home runs and 52 RBI. [11]
Lomavita was selected by the Washington Nationals with the 39th overall pick in the 2024 Major League Baseball draft. [12] On July 24,2024,Lomavita signed with the Nationals on a $2.33 million contract. [13]
Saint Louis School,located in the neighborhood of St. Louis Heights in Honolulu,Hawaii,is a historic Catholic college preparatory school for boys. It was founded in 1846 to serve Catholics in the former Kingdom of Hawaii. Located within the Diocese of Honolulu,it is affiliated with the Society of Mary,a religious order of brothers and priests called the Marianists who also administer Chaminade University of Honolulu,formerly the college section of Saint Louis School. It is located near Sacred Hearts Academy,a girls' school founded by the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary,and both schools hold joint programs such as cultural festivals and the JROTC.
