The California Vulcans football program is the intercollegiate American football team for Pennsylvania Western University California (known before July 2022 as California University of Pennsylvania), located in California, Pennsylvania. The team competes in NCAA Division II and is a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. California University's first football team was fielded in 1916. The Vulcans play home games at the 6,500-seat Hepner–Bailey Field at Adamson Stadium on their campus, and are coached by Gary Dunn. [2]

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level. The conference was originally formed in 1951 as the State Teachers Conference, and was temporarily named the Pennsylvania State Teachers College Conference in 1956 before being assuming its current name in 1964.

Card-Pitt was the team created by the temporary merger of two National Football League (NFL) teams, the Chicago Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers, during the 1944 season. It was the second such merger for the Steelers, who had combined with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1943 to form the "Steagles". The arrangement was made necessary by there being a shortage of numerous players due to World War II military service, and was dissolved upon completion of the season. The war ended before the start of the 1945 season, and both teams resumed normal operations.

The team failed to improve on their 11–5 record from 2005 and also failed to defend their Super Bowl XL championship, Instead, they finished the season with an 8–8 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2003. In the first half of the season, the Steelers record was 2-6. However, the team dramatically improved during the second half of the season, flipping their record from the first eight games and going 6-2 in their last eight.

The 2021 California Vulcans football team represented California University of Pennsylvania as a member of the West Division of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) during the 2021 NCAA Division II football season. Led by sixth-year head coach Gary Dunn, California compiled an overall record of 9–1 with a mark of 5–1 in conference play, sharing PSAC West Division title with Slippery Rock, who dealt the Vulcans their only loss of the season. By virtue of the head-to-head win Slippery Rock earned a berth in the PSAC Football Championship Game. California was ranked No. 21 in the final AFCA poll, but was not selected for the NCAA Division II Football Championship playoffs. The Vulcans played their home games at Hepner–Bailey Field at Adamson Stadium in California, Pennsylvania.
