Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) provides community, mental health and learning disability services in Cambridgeshire, England. The trust provides specialist services across the east of England and across Britain. [1]
The Trust became a Foundation Trust in June 2008.
In 2010, eighty of the Trust's patients were in private beds, mostly out of the area. The trust began to use an intensive three day assessment period, and invested more in supporting people in their own homes in order to avoid the need for institutional admission. [2]
In 2018 the trust sold its 'Ida Darwin Unit' based in Cambridge and the 'Gloucester Centre' based in Peterborough to Homes England for £20 million. [3]
The Trust was part of the UnitingCare Partnership with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group announced in September 2014 that the partnership was the preferred bidder for a pioneering £800 million contract to deliver older people’s services in Cambridgeshire with effect from April 2015. The plan was for a single lead provider which will be responsible for older people’s healthcare services and adult community health services, ensuring that care is more joined up than it has been, with a focus on improving the patient experience. [4] In April 2015 the trust took on 1,360 staff formerly employed by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust following the success of the Partnership's bid. [5]
In an article in National Health Executive magazine on 15 September 2016, CPFT CEO Aidan Thomas is reported to have told the Public Accounts Committee: "We bid as low as we thought we could reasonably do," ...."There was pressure in the system at the time to get the whole thing going," he said. "There was a need for the economy to deal with its financial problems and this contract, if it had been allowed to work, should have dealt with some of that." [6]

The Trust supports around 100,000 people each year and employs more than 4,000 staff. Its largest bases are at the Cavell Centre, Peterborough, and Fulbourn Hospital, [7] but its staff are based in over 90 locations.
The trust provides physical health checks and mental health therapy at Clare Lodge in Peterborough, an all-female welfare-only secure home - the UK's only children's home of its type. [8]

Fulbourn Hospital is a mental health facility located between the Cambridgeshire village of Fulbourn and the Cambridge city boundary at Cherry Hinton, about 5 miles (8 km) south-east of the city centre. It is managed by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust. The Ida Darwin Hospital site is situated behind Fulbourn Hospital. It is run and managed by the same trust, with both hospitals sharing the same facilities and staff pool.

North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was an NHS foundation trust which provided mental health, learning disability and community health services in fifteen boroughs of North West England. The Trust delivered mental health and learning disability services in Halton, Knowsley, St Helens, Warrington and Wigan, as well as community-based physical health services in Halton, Knowsley, St Helens and Sefton. It also provided services to improve outcomes for people with mental vulnerabilities within the criminal justice system across Greater Manchester, working in partnership with Mitie Care and Custody and Cheshire and Greater Manchester Community Rehabilitation Company.
The Edith Cavell Hospital was an acute hospital serving the city of Peterborough and north Cambridgeshire, east Northamptonshire and Rutland in the United Kingdom. Situated on a greenfield site at Westwood, Peterborough, it was decommissioned in late 2010 and demolished in early 2011.
The Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is an NHS trust that provides mental health, learning disability and eating disorders services. It serves a population of around two million people living in County Durham, Darlington and most of North Yorkshire. It is geographically one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in England.
Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust was a NHS trust that previously ran Yeovil District Hospital in Yeovil, Somerset, England. It provided acute care for a population of about 180,000, people living in South Somerset, North and West Dorset, and parts of Mendip. The hospital admits around 30,000 inpatients or day cases each year and treats more than 90,000 people in the outpatient appointments. Approximately 40,000 people are treated in Accident and Emergency and 1,300 babies are born in the maternity unit each year.
Hinchingbrooke Hospital is a small district general hospital in Hinchingbrooke near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. Opened in 1983, it serves the Huntingdonshire area, and has a range of specialities as well as an emergency department and a maternity unit. The hospital is managed by the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust.
Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) is an NHS mental health trust providing adult mental health and related services in Wiltshire and the former county of Avon, an area centred on Bristol.
Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was one of the first ten NHS Foundation Trusts in England in 2004. It ran Peterborough City Hospital and Stamford and Rutland Hospital. It was one of six centres used by the Defence Medical Services. The trust merged with Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust in 2017 to become North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust.
