Camilo Igor Ballesteros Briones (born 23 June 1987 in Santiago) is a Chilean physical education undergraduate student and member of the Chilean Communist Youth. He was the president of the University of Santiago de Chile Student Federation (Feusach) in 2010-2011 and became of the main spokespersons of the Confederation of Chilean Students (Confech) during the movement for better access to quality education.
Born to working-class parents,Ballesteros lived his childhood in the commune of Independencia,Santiago. [1] He studied in the Saint George school (known for being an elite school for the rich people of Chile),and then in the Colegio Latinoamericano in Providencia. When he was in high school he took part in the 2006 student protests in Chile,joining the Communist Party of his country.
Inside the University of Santiago he started working with a group of students,including Feusach former president Pablo Moyano,to form a leftist student collective called Avanza Usach. They won University elections in the 2009–2010 term and were re-elected in 2010,with Ballesteros as president. During the 2011 student protests he became one of the three most recognized faces of the Confech along with Camila Vallejo from the Fech and Giorgio Jackson from the Feuc.
In January 2012,with the support of the Chilean Communist Party,Ballesteros launched his candidacy for mayor to Estación Central. In the elections he lost by a small percentage against Rodrigo Delgado (UDI). In January 2013 the Communist Party announced his candidacy for deputy. [2]
In 2013,he took part in Michelle Bachelet's presidential campaign as representative of her Youth Branch. [3]

The Socialist Party of Chile is a centre-left political party. Its historic leader was President of Chile Salvador Allende,who was deposed in a coup d'état by General Augusto Pinochet in 1973. Twenty-seven years later,Ricardo Lagos Escobar represented the Socialist Party in the 1999–2000 Chilean presidential election. He won 48.0% in the first round of voting and was elected with 51.3% in the second round. In the 2001 Chilean parliamentary election,as part of the Coalition of Parties for Democracy,the party won 10 out of 117 seats in the Chamber of Deputies of Chile and 5 out of 38 elected seats in the Senate. After the 2005 Chilean parliamentary election,the party increased its seats to 15 and 8,respectively. In the 2009 Chilean parliamentary election,it retained 11 Congressional and 5 Senate seats.
Verónica Michelle Bachelet Jeria is a Chilean politician who has served as United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights since 2018. She previously served as President of Chile from 2006 to 2010 and 2014 to 2018 for the Socialist Party of Chile;she is the first woman to hold the Chilean presidency and the first elected female leader in South America. After leaving the presidency in 2010 and while not immediately reelectable,she was appointed the first executive director of the newly created United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In December 2013,Bachelet was reelected with over 62% of the vote,bettering the 54% she obtained in 2006. She was the first President of Chile to be reelected since 1932.

The 2011–2013 Chilean protests –known as the Chilean Winter or the Chilean Education Conflict –were a series of student-led protests across Chile,demanding a new framework for education in the country,including more direct state participation in secondary education and an end to the existence of profit in higher education. Currently in Chile,only 45% of high school students study in traditional public schools and most universities are also private. No new public universities have been built since the end of the Chilean transition to democracy in 1990,even though the number of university students has increased.

Previously,Vallejo served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies,representing District 26 of La Florida,Santiago.

Karol Aída Cariola Oliva is a Chilean politician,and former president of the Federación de Estudiantes de la Universidad de Concepción for 2010. She was elected General Secretary of the Juventudes Comunistas de Chile,abbr. JJ.CC.,at the organizations XIII Congress held in October 2011. Cariola is the second woman to hold this post in the Communist Youth of Chile after the late communist leader Gladys Marin (1941-2005).

Kenneth Giorgio Jackson Drago is a Chilean politician and engineer who has been serving as chile's Ministry General Secretariat of the Presidency since 11 March 2022. He is founder and first congressman of the political party Democratic Revolution,achieving the highest personal vote in the 2017 elections to the lower chamber. He was one of the leaders of the student mobilizations of 2011 and collaborated in the creation of the Chilean Broad Front and the presidential candidacy of Beatriz Sánchez.
Gabriel Boric Font is the current President of Chile,serving since 11 March 2022. Boric studied in the Faculty of Law at the University of Chile,and was the president of the University of Chile Student Federation from 2011 to 2012. Although he completed his studies at law school,he never graduated. As a student representative,he became one of the leading figures of the 2011–2013 Chilean student protests. Boric was twice elected to the Chamber of Deputies representing the Magallanes and Antarctic district,first as an independent candidate in 2013 and then in 2017 as part of the Broad Front,a left-wing coalition he created with several other parties.
