Candice Olson (born October 27, 1964) is a Canadian designer. She was the host of the Toronto-based home-makeover shows Divine Design and Candice Tells All , which aired on the W Network in Canada and on HGTV in the United States.

Early life

Olson attended the University of Calgary and played for the Canadian National Women's Volleyball Team at the same time. She then transferred and graduated from the School of Interior Design at Ryerson University in Toronto.

Olson honed her skills for several years in several of Canada's top interior design firms.

Career

Candice Olson Design

In 1994, she established her own residential and commercial design practice, Candice Olson Design, based in Metro Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Television

In the fall of 2001, Divine Design debuted on Canada's W Network and quickly established itself as one of the network's flagship shows. Two years later, in 2003, the series premiered on HGTV in the United States in more than 90 million homes.

On January 1, 2011, Olson's new series, Candice Tells All , premiered on HGTV. It debuted on the W Network in Canada on January 6, 2011. [1]

The Candice Olson Collection is made up of products in the home décor market. The lines include an upholstered furniture line for Norwalk (MyCandiceDesign.com), The Furniture Idea; a line of fabric from Kravet Inc.; a lighting line; a line of rugs for Surya (surya.com); bettertrends a line of broad case good, occasional, and table line with Revco International; and a wallpaper line for York Wallcoverings (http://www.yorkwallcoverings.com)

Books

In 2006, Olson wrote her first book; Candice Olson on Design: Inspiration and Ideas for Your Home in which she shares design secrets, smart tips, and practical advice to help readers plan and execute successful room makeovers. [2]

Her second book, Candice Olson: Kitchen & Bathrooms was published on March 22, 2011. [3]

Personal life

Olson is married to a builder Jurij Sennecke. [4] They have two children, Pyper and Beckett, the latter drafted 3rd overall in the 2024 NHL entry draft by the Anaheim Ducks. Both of her pregnancies were discussed on various episodes of Divine Design during the second and fourth seasons.

Design on a Dime is a decorating television series that aired on HGTV from 2003 to 2013. In this long-running series, a design team demonstrates how problem areas can be revitalized on a budget of only $1,000. The show was based in Chicago, IL. and featured a rotation of design teams and hosts. Later episodes featured designer Casey Noble using innovative solutions to the toughest makeover scenarios and with a bigger budget of $2,500. There were a few variations, including episodes highlighting a $3,000 wedding, Christmas, a special "Etsy" episode, and more.

<i>HGTV Star</i> American TV series or program

HGTV Star, named HGTV Design Star for the first seven seasons, is an American reality competition show that premiered on July 23, 2006, on the cable television network HGTV. Clive Pearse served as host for Seasons 1-4, then judge Vern Yip served as host for Season 5, replacing Clive Pearse. HGTV'D host Tanika Ray served as host for Season 6 and Design Star Season 1 winner David Bromstad join the show as a mentor. Bromstad later return not only as mentor but as host, replacing Tanika Ray, for the remainder of the show including Design Star: All Stars, even though Tanika Ray announce as host for Season 7. Vern Yip, Genevieve Gorder, and Sabrina Soto currently serve as the show's three judges. Candice Olson served as a judge for seasons 4 and 5; starting with season 6, a third rotating judge was brought in to fill the spot left by Olson. Previous judges include Cynthia Rowley, a designer of fashion and home accessories; and Martha McCully, Executive Editor of InStyle magazine.

Divine Design is a Canadian interior design show which airs on W Network in Canada and HGTV in the United States. It is hosted by Candice Olson, one of Canada's top designers. In the show, Olson heads a team of artisans and skilled labourers that includes Paul Daly (carpenter), Lorne Hogan (carpenter), Chico García (electrician), Edmond Joseph (seamster), Terry Edward Briceland (seamster), and Andrew Downward (painter). The half-hour show features Olson's step-by-step interior redesign of a client's living space mixed with campy comedy shorts before each commercial break. Reruns of the show are seen on Yes TV.

Designer Superstar Challenge also known simply as Superstar Challenge is a show hosted by Karen Bertelsen on HGTV Canada that has had four seasons. Similar to the American series HGTV Design Star, the show features aspiring interior designers competing in a series of challenges, following which one contestant is named the "design superstar" at the end of the competition.

The fifth season of HGTV Design Star premiered on June 13, 2010. The series returned to New York City for the new season. Clive Pearse did not return to host. Instead, Vern Yip served as both lead judge and host. Candice Olson and Genevieve Gorder both returned for their second season as judges. As part of the elimination process this season, the designers up for elimination are taped presenting their designs so the judges can evaluate their preparedness to host a series. The winner of this season was prop stylist Emily Henderson. Her show Secrets From a Stylist was aired as a special one-hour premiere on August 29, 2010, where she redesigned the Los Angeles home of Ian Brennan, her friend and the co-creator of Glee. HGTV has since ordered twenty-six more episodes of Secrets From a Stylist, which are due to air in 2011.
