Candriam is a global multi-specialist asset management firm headquartered in Luxembourg, founded in 1996. Since 2014, it has been a subsidiary of New York Life Investment Management (NYLIM). In May 2025, Belgian bank Belfius announced its intention to acquire a minority stake in Candriam, pending customary closing conditions [1] . The transaction is expected to complete by the end of 2025.
The company offers investment solutions across fixed income, equities, absolute return, multi-asset, and private markets. As of December 2024, Candriam managed approximately €155 billion in assets and employed over 600 professionals. It operates 11 offices globally, with investment management centers in Brussels, Luxembourg, Paris, and London [2] .
Candriam is known for its conviction-based investment approach [13] , combining fundamental, quantitative and ESG insights. As of December 2024, over 75% of Candriam's assets were managed with ESG integration. Candriam maintains strict exclusion and engagement policies [14] in the industry, excluding controversial weapons, thermal coal, and tobacco from its portfolios.
Candriam is regarded as a leader in responsible investing [15] , a position it has held for close to three decades. It was one of the first asset managers to integrate ESG criteria across its entire investment process. The firm engages actively with companies and policymakers and regularly publishes research and position papers on sustainability issues.
Launched in 2017, the Candriam Academy is the world's first free, accredited online training platform dedicated to sustainable investing [16] . By 2024, it had over 16,000 [17] registered users across six languages, helping to raise awareness and knowledge of responsible finance among financial professionals.
Candriam is led by CEO Vincent Hamelink [10] . The Executive Committee includes heads of investment platforms, risk, compliance, operations, and distribution. The firm is owned by New York Life Investment Management (67%) and Belfius Bank (33%) [1] . The transaction is expected to complete by the end of 2025.
Candriam has received multiple industry awards [18] for its ESG strategies, stewardship, and innovation in investment solutions. It is regularly ranked [15] [13] among the top responsible investors by independent ESG rating agencies.
