František Čapek was a Czechoslovakian sprint canoeist who competed from the late 1940s to the mid-1950s. He won a gold medal in the C-1 10000 m event at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London
Bohumil Kudrna was a Czechoslovak flatwater and slalom canoeist who competed in the late 1940s and the early 1950s. Competing in two Summer Olympics, he won two medals with Jan Brzák-Felix in the C-2 1000 m event with a gold in 1948 and a silver in 1952.
The 1994 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships were held in Mexico City, Mexico for the second time at neighboring Xochimilco. The Mexican city had hosted the event previously in 1974 at the same venue that hosted the canoeing and rowing competitions for the 1968 Summer Olympics.

Simion Ismailciuc was a Romanian sprint canoeist. He had his best achievements in pairs, partnering with Dumitru Alexe. Together they won an Olympic gold medal in 1956, a European title in 1957 and a world title in 1958. Ismailciuc also excelled individually in the C-1 1000 m event, winning the world and European titles in 1963. He retired in 1965 to become a canoeing coach.

Ture Wilhelm "Thor" Axelsson was a Finnish sprint canoer who competed in the late 1940s. He won two bronze medals at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, earning them in the K-2 1000 m and K-2 10000 m events. He was born in Helsinki. Axelsson also won a gold medal in the K-2 500 m event at the 1948 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in London. Note that the K-2 500 m event did not become an official event at the Summer Olympics until the 1976 Games in Montreal. The event has been on the Olympic program since then.

René Raymond Argentin is a French former sprint canoeist who competed in the late 1940s. He finished fourth in the C-1 10000 m event at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. Argentin was a national champion in canoeing in both 1948 and 1949.
