The men's canoe sprint C-2 1,000 metres at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro took place between 19 and 20 August at Lagoa Stadium. [1] The medals were presented by Bernard Rajzman, IOC member, Brazil and Jens Perlwitz, Board Member of the ICF.

She won three consecutive gold medals in the Women's K‑1 200 metres at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2016 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Olympics, as well as gold in the same event at the 2011 Canoe Sprint World Championships. At the 2020 Summer Olympics she also won a gold medal in the K‑2 500 metres, with Caitlin Regal, and as an individual in the K‑1 500 metres. At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Carrington defended her titles in the K‑1 500 metres and K‑2 500 metres event and also won the K‑4 500 metres event. Carrington equalled Danuta Kozák's record of winning all three K-1, K-2, K-4 events, over 500 metres, at one Olympics.

Canoeing at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was contested in two main disciplines: canoe slalom, from 7 to 11 August, and canoe sprint, from 15 to 20 August. The slalom competition was held at the Olympic Whitewater Stadium; whereas the sprint events were staged at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas in Copacabana. Serghei Tarnovschi is a Ukrainian-born Moldovan sprint canoeist. He won two Olympic bronze medals in the men's C-1 1000 metres event, at the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Stefan Kiraj is a German canoeist. He competed in the men's C-1 200 metres event at the 2016 Summer Olympics where he finished 6th in his semifinal and did not advance.

Joaquim Lobo is a Mozambican canoeist. He competed in the men's C-1 200 metres event and the men's C-2 1000 metres event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He did not qualify for the semifinals in the men's C-1 200m event. Along with partner Mussa Chamaune, he finished in 11th place in the C-2 1000m event. Lobo was the flag bearer for Mozambique during the Parade of Nations. In June 2021, he qualified to represent Mozambique at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
