COTS Productions, also known as Captain of the Sea Productions, is a Nigerian independent and privately owned film production company headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria. [1]

History

Founded in 2023 by Ope Ajayi, COTS Productions was established with the vision of developing high-quality, commercially viable, and culturally resonant Nigerian films. [2]

The company has since built a reputation for producing cinematic hits and licensing its content across both local and international streaming platforms, including Netflix, Kava, and Circuits.tv. Since its inception, COTS Productions has contributed to the evolving landscape of Nollywood by delivering stories that blend entertainment with strong cultural narratives, appealing to both Nigerian and global audiences. COTS Productions has produced several commercially successful feature films and television series. Its catalogue includes titles such as The Party (Tv series) , Gingerrr, Queen Lateefah, Thin Line, and Ada Omo Daddy.

The company achieved major box-office success with Queen Lateefah in September 2024, which became the highest-grossing Nigerian film released during that month and was 7th highest grossing Nollywood movie of all time as at the time period. [5] This record was surpassed in September 2025 with Gingerrr, which not only became the highest-grossing September release in Nollywood history but also secured a position among the all-time highest-grossing Nigerian films. [6] Through its consistent production output and growing partnerships with streaming platforms and major industry players, COTS Productions continues to strengthen its influence within the Nigerian entertainment industry and beyond.
