History

CARCHEX was founded in 1999 as a provider of pre-purchase vehicle inspections. In 2003, the company was purchased by Jason Goldsmith, a Baltimore-based entrepreneur and founder of TheLoanPage.com. Shortly afterward, CARCHEX expanded its vehicle inspection service to all 50 states by partnering with a nationwide network of ASE-certified mechanics. [1]

In 2004, CARCHEX added a second consumer assurance product to its business by offering vehicle service contracts (VSCs), also known as extended warranties. The company expanded the service in 2007 as a warranty remarketing program conducted on behalf of dealership groups such as MileOne. [2] The company has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. [3]

In 2014, CARCHEX announced a partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). As part of the partnership, CARCHEX donated $20,000 to the organization to help prevent underage drinking and eliminate drunk driving. [4]

Mothers Against Drunk Driving Nonprofit organization

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is a non-profit organization in the United States, Canada and Brazil that seeks to stop drunk driving, support those affected by drunk driving, prevent underage drinking, and strive for stricter impaired driving policy, whether that impairment is caused by alcohol or any other drug. The Irving, Texas–based organization was founded on September 5, 1980, in California by Candace Lightner after her 13-year-old daughter, Cari, was killed by a drunk driver. There is at least one MADD office in every state of the United States and at least one in each province of Canada. These offices offer victim services and many resources involving alcohol safety. MADD has claimed that drunk driving has been reduced by half since its founding. Members of the organization have been known to harass & delay or disrupt court hearings for DUI charges, or call CPS on family members of the defendant in said cases under false claims of abuse or neglect.

Blackout Wednesday refers to binge drinking on the night before the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States. Very few people work on Thanksgiving, and most college students are home with their families for the Thanksgiving holiday, which means that high school friends have an opportunity to catch up at the local tavern as they converge on their hometown. MADD reports that the Thanksgiving holiday produces more people killed in drunk driving crashes than the Christmas holiday.

Intoxalock is the primary DBA of Consumer Safety Technology, LLC, which developed technology used by ignition interlock devices, which are breathalyzers installed in vehicles. They are based in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. The devices are meant to deter people from driving while intoxicated, and are often mandated by courts of law for people who have DUI or DWI offenses.
