Care England is a trade organisation for independent adult social care providers in England. It is the largest representative body for independent social care services in the UK. [1] It is a registered charity based in London. Members provide a variety of services for older people and those with long term conditions, learning disabilities or mental health problems. [2] Professor Martin Green, OBE, is the Chief Executive.

It presses local councils for improved funding and was particularly vocal in the COVID-19 pandemic in England, which caused big problems for the sector. [3]

It described the increase in the standard weekly rate per person from £183.92 to £187.60 and the higher rate of Funded Nursing Care from £253.02 to £258.08 announced in March 2021 as showing contempt for the sector, [4] but it welcomed the subsequent extension of the total infection control fund, enabling enhanced infection control procedures. [5]

It welcomed the extension of the shortage occupation list to senior care workers and registered managers in March 2021. Martin Green said “We hope that this is the start of a process towards the creation of a migration system which supports rather than undermines the development of the adult social care workforce.” [6]

The Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee announced an enquiry into the likely legacy of the coronavirus pandemic in adult social care in March 2021. Professor Green welcomed the announcement but expressed his frustration that "yet more discussions" were needed to see the prime minister deliver on his promise for reform. [7]

The organisation welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom in March 2021 that care workers were not entitled to the minimum wage for sleep-in shifts. Care England was represented in the case at the Court of Appeal stage. Their solicitor said: “The Supreme Court’s decision means UK care providers no longer face a potentially catastrophic financial outcome that could have jeopardised the care of thousands of people." Martin Green said "Care England continues to call for a ten year plan for adult social a key part of which is a workforce plan, akin to that of the NHS, where career progression, pay and rewards are identified." National Health Service (England) Publicly-funded healthcare system in England

The National Health Service (NHS) is the publicly funded healthcare system in England, and one of the four National Health Service systems in the United Kingdom. It is the second largest single-payer healthcare system in the world after the Brazilian Sistema Único de Saúde. Primarily funded by the government from general taxation, and overseen by the Department of Health and Social Care, the NHS provides healthcare to all legal English residents and residents from other regions of the UK, with most services free at the point of use. Some services, such as emergency treatment and treatment of infectious diseases, are free for most people, including visitors.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department of Health and Social Care of the United Kingdom. It was established in 2009 to regulate and inspect health and social care services in England.

National Health Service Publicly-funded healthcare systems in the United Kingdom

National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). Since 1948 they have been funded out of general taxation. There are three systems which make up the "NHS". Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland was created separately and although it does not use the name "NHS" it is still often to referred to as such, particularly in reference to the overall health system in the UK. The four systems were established in 1948 as part of major social reforms following the Second World War. The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care. In England, NHS patients have to pay prescription charges; some, such as those aged over 60 and certain state benefit recipients, are exempt.

Social care in England is defined as the provision of social work, personal care, protection or social support services to children or adults in need or at risk, or adults with needs arising from illness, disability, old age or poverty. The main legal definitions flow from the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990, with other provisions covering disability and responsibilities to informal carers. That provision may have one or more of the following aims: to protect people who use care services from abuse or neglect, to prevent deterioration of or promote physical or mental health, to promote independence and social inclusion, to improve opportunities and life chances, to strengthen families and to protect human rights in relation to people's social needs.

Unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) are paraprofessionals who assist individuals with physical disabilities, mental impairments, and other health care needs with their activities of daily living (ADLs). UAPs also provide bedside care—including basic nursing procedures—all under the supervision of a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse or other health care professional. UAPs must demonstrate their ability and competence before gaining any expanded responsibilities in a clinical setting. While providing this care, UAPs offer compassion and patience and are part of the patient's healthcare support system. Communication between UAPs and registered nurses (RNs) is key as they are working together in their patients' best interests. The scope of care UAPs are responsible for is delegated by RNs or other clinical licensed professionals.

Virgin Care is a private provider of publicly funded community health and social services, and has been commissioned by the National Health Service and Local Authorities in England since 2010.

Health Education England (HEE) is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department of Health and Social Care. Its function is to provide national leadership and coordination for the education and training within the health and public health workforce within England. It has been operational since June 2012.

In 2002, nursing homes in the United Kingdom were officially designated as care homes with nursing, and residential homes became known as care homes.

The NHS Long Term Plan, also known as the NHS 10-Year Plan is a document published by NHS England on 7 January 2019, which sets out its priorities for healthcare over the next 10 years and shows how the NHS funding settlement will be used. It was published by NHS England chief executive Simon Stevens and Prime Minister Theresa May. The plan marked the official abandonment of the policy of competition in the English NHS, which was established by the Health and Social Care Act 2012. Integrated care systems are to be created across England by 2021, Clinical Commissioning Groups are to be merged and NHS England with NHS Improvement appear to be merging, unofficially, though this is all to happen without actually repealing the legislation.

Hft is a British learning disability charity based in Bristol. It was established in 1962. The parents who established the charity bought Frocester Manor in Gloucestershire as a residential home for their children. Anne, Princess Royal has been the patron of the charity since 1982. The organisation runs small, person-centred residential care homes and supported living services. In 2019 it is supporting more than 2,900 adults with learning disabilities.

Home Instead Senior Care UK United Kingdom home care franchise

Home Instead Senior Care UK is a network of franchises specialising relationship-led domiciliary care for the elderly, in support of aging in place. It is a franchise of Home Instead Senior Care which is based in Nebraska and was founded in 1994. It has 210 franchised offices across the UK, employing more than 13,000 people. It was one of the 20 most recommended providers in the Home Care Awards 2019. It achieved an overall rating of 9.9 out of 10.

2021 United Kingdom budget

The March 2021 United Kingdom budget was a budget delivered by Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor of the Exchequer. It was expected to be delivered in Autumn 2020, but was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It succeeds the budget held in March 2020, and the summer statement and Winter Economy Plan held in summer and autumn 2020 respectively. The budget is the second under Boris Johnson's government, also the second to be delivered by Sunak and the second since Britain's withdrawal from the European Union.

Minister of State for Social Care (UK)

The Minister of State for Social Care is a mid-level position in the Department of Health and Social Care in the British government. It is currently held by Helen Whately MP who took the office on 10 September 2019. The minister often deputises for the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care alongside the Minister of State for Health. The minister is in charge of social care in England.
