Caren Miosga (born 11 April 1969) is a German journalist and television presenter.
Caren Miosga grew up in Groß Ilsede, Lower Saxony, and attended the local grammar school. She studied history and Slavic studies in Hamburg.
Miosga is fluent in Russian as she worked as a tour guide in Saint Petersburg and Moscow during her studies. [1]
After completing her studies, Miosga worked for several radio stations – Radio Schleswig-Holstein (R.SH), Radio Hamburg and N-Joy – and the television channel RTL Television North. In 1999, she went to NDR Fernsehen and presented there the Kulturjournal. From May 2006, she hosted ttt Titel, Thesen, Temperamente, the ARD culture magazine.
The following year Miosga succeeded Anne Will [2] and became the new presenter of Tagesthemen , appearing in rotation with successive co-presenters Tom Buhrow (2006–2013), Thomas Roth (2013–2016), and Ingo Zamperoni (2013–2014 and since 2016).
During her time at Tagesthemen, Miosga interviewed Prime Minister Manuel Valls of France on the occasion of his first official visit to Germany in 2014. In 2018, she and Deutsche Welle correspondent Max Hofmann jointly conducted a French-language TV interview with President Emmanuel Macron, his first with a German television channel. [3]
In 2017, Miosga – representing the Tagesthemen editorial staff – was awarded a Goldene Kamera in the category "Best Information". [4] In a 2018 survey conducted by Forsa Institute, she was voted one of Germany's most trusted news presenters. [5]
On 5 October 2023 she moderated the Tagesthemen for the last time. Since January 2024, Miosga has been presenting her ARD political talk show Caren Miosga on most Sundays.
Miosga is married to pathologist Tobias Grob [6] and has two children. [7] [8] The family of her father originates from Upper Silesia and has Russian roots.
ARD is a joint organisation of Germany's regional public-service broadcasters. It was founded in 1950 in West Germany to represent the common interests of the new, decentralised, post-war broadcasting services – in particular the introduction of a joint television network.
Tagesthemen is one of Germany's main daily television news magazines, presented by journalists Helge Fuhst, Aline Abboud, Ingo Zamperoni and Jessy Wellmer. Second only to the 20:00 TagesschauTagesthemen is ARD's most important newscast. It is different in style and content from Tagesschau and is broadcast Mondays to Thursdays at 22:15, Fridays at 23:15, Saturdays at varying times and Sundays at 22:45. On special news occasions, a Tagesthemen extra is also broadcast before the main show. Each Tagesthemen broadcast has a single host, a single newsreader for the news block, usually from the earlier Tagesschau, a weather presenter broadcasting from Frankfurt, and a presenter for the sports block on the weekends. Previously recorded Tagesthemen newscasts can also be seen internationally via YouTube on Tagesschau's YouTube Channel.
Anne Will is a German television journalist and host of the eponymous political talk show. She was anchorwoman of the daily Tagesthemen news broadcast on ARD from 14 April 2001 until 24 June 2007.
