Carlo Brandelli (born December 1965) is a British fashion designer, creative director, and co-founder of Squire. He received the Menswear Designer of the Year award from the British Fashion Council in 2005. [1]
Brandelli founded Squire in 1991, combining elements of art, architecture, and fashion design. This project established one of the first "creative director" roles in British menswear. [2] He also worked as a freelance designer for Burberry and Valentino in Japan.
In 2003, Brandelli joined Kilgour, a Savile Row tailoring house, as creative director. [3] He aimed to modernize Kilgour's image by blending traditional tailoring with minimalist design. He oversaw the collections, store designs, and advertising campaigns.
He has received recognition within the fashion industry, including being named GQ's Most Stylish Man in 2005. [4] In 2008, Kilgour changed ownership shortly before Brandelli's Paris runway show. He resigned the following year. He returned to Kilgour as a freelance creative director in 2013.
In 2009, Brandelli founded his own studio focusing on design consultancy and sculpture. [5] His first solo sculpture exhibition, "Permanence", opened in June 2010 at RCM Galerie in Paris. Some works were later shown at the Art Élysées Contemporary Art Fair the same year.
In 2013, he created the Floating Series of glass works in Murano, all of which were acquired by a private collection. He followed this in 2015 with Glass Forms, his first series experimenting with found and discarded glass, and in 2016 he presented his second experimental series, Left Glass. [6]
That same year, Brandelli was invited as a guest designer at Pitti Uomo, where he showcased an installation of colored glass at the Palazzo Medici in Florence, Italy. [7]
In 2017, Brandelli's work was included in the Museum of Modern Art's exhibition 'Is Fashion Modern?'. He continues to lecture on design and participate in international design discussions.
