Carmen J. Williams is an American obstetrician-gynecologist and reproductive biologist. She has served as the deputy chief of the reproductive developmental biology laboratory at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences since 2017.

Life

Williams earned a B.S.E., magna cum laude, in electrical engineering from Duke University in 1981. [1] From 1981 to 1982, she was an engineer in the computer graphics design division at the IBM in Poughkeepsie, New York. [1] She completed an M.D. from the Duke University School of Medicine in 1986. [1] She conducted a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Pennsylvania Hospital from 1986 to 1990. [1] Williams completed a clinical fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of Pennsylvania from 1990 to 1992. [1] She earned a Ph.D. in molecular and cell biology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997. [1] From 1997 to 2000, she was a postdoctoral fellow in the department of biology under Richard M. Schultz at the University of Pennsylvania. [1]

From 2000 to 2007, Williams was an assistant professor the division of reproductive endocrinology and infertility in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Pennsylvania. [1] In 2007, she became a tenure-track clinical investigator in the reproductive medicine group in the reproductive developmental biology laboratory at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. [1] She was promoted to senior investigator in 2016 and deputy chief of the laboratory the following year. [1] The focus of Williams' research is on the basic reproductive biology of embryo development and how the environment impacts reproduction. [2] Among her most important research accomplishments is the discovery of mechanisms that control how well calcium signaling works in very early embryos just after fertilization. [2] [3] In 2022, Williams was elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. [2] [4]

Reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) is a surgical subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology that trains physicians in reproductive medicine addressing hormonal functioning as it pertains to reproduction as well as the issue of infertility. While most REI specialists primarily focus on the treatment of infertility, reproductive endocrinologists are trained to also test and treat hormonal dysfunctions in females and males outside infertility. Reproductive endocrinologists have specialty training (residency) in obstetrics and gynecology (ob-gyn) before they undergo sub-specialty training (fellowship) in REI.

Mark V. Sauer is an American physician who specializes in reproductive medicine. He is a clinician, researcher and medical educator best known for his work in the development of egg and embryo donation, fertility care of HIV-seropositive patients, and reproductive bioethics. He currently is Professor and Chairman of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He also serves as the Senior Associate Dean for Women's Health there. Sauer was the Chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City for twenty-one years, where he was also the program and laboratory director of the Center for Women's Reproductive Care, and a tenured professor and vice-chairman in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University. While at Columbia University he also served on the Medical Ethics Committee of New York Presbyterian-Columbia University Medical Center.

Laura Charlotte Hewitson is a British-born primate researcher noted for her work in the fields of reproductive biology and behavior. She is an affiliate scientist at the Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC) and an adjunct associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Additionally, she is the Research Director of the Johnson Center for Child Health and Development in Austin, Texas. Hewitson was a staff scientist at Oregon Health Sciences University from 1997 to 2001. From 2002 to 2010 she was an associate professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and a member of the Magee-Women's Research Institute and Foundation (MWRI&F) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Inna Berin is a Russian-American obstetrician and gynecologist, specializing in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the Fertility Institute of New Jersey and New York. Dr. Berin has authored several scientific publications in the field of reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

Eli Y. Adashi is an American physician-scientist-executive who served as the Fifth Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences at Brown University. Jaideep Malhotra is an India-based gynecologist, infertility specialist and an ace sonologist. She is the founder of the Infertility Centre of Rainbow IVF and also serves as the director of the hospital. Malhotra received award from Prime minister of Nepal for first 100 IVF babies of Nepal and her clinic, Rainbow IVF was first in Uttar Pradesh for successful IVF, ICSI, TESA, twins and triplets.

Marisa Bartolomei is an American cell biologist, the Perelman Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology and Co-Director of the Epigenetics Institute at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research considers epigenetic processes including genomic imprinting. She was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2021.

PonJola Coney is an American reproductive endocrinologist. Coney is currently director of the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Center on Health Disparities and professor of obstetrics and gynecology in the VCU School of Medicine.

Janet Elizabeth Hall is a Canadian-American physician-scientist and neuroendocrinologist specialized in the human reproductive physiology and pathophysiology. Her research focuses on women's health and the neuroendocrine interactions governing normal reproduction and the impact of aging. She is the clinical director at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Hall was previously a professor of medicine at the Harvard Medical School.
