Freund held three positions at the World Bank:Senior Economist in the Development Research Group for International Trade from 2002 to 2009,Lead Economist in the same group from 2009 to 2011,and Chief Economist for the Middle East and North Africa from 2011 to 2013.[3][non-primary source needed] She is also a nonresident senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics.[2]
On March 29,2021,the University of California,San Diego announced that it had appointed Freund as the incoming dean of the university's School of Global Policy and Strategy,succeeding Peter F. Cowhey,effective July 1,2021.[5]
