Carrosserie Worblaufen, F. Ramseier & Co. was a Swiss manufacturer of car bodies headquartered in Worblaufen near Bern from 1929 to 1958. [1] The company is different to Carrosserie Ramseier in Bern and Biel. [2] [3] [4]

The company was founded by Fritz Ramseier-Scheidiger in 1900 in Worblaufen and mainly built trailer and truck bodies. Ramseier-Scheidiger passed the company on to his son Fritz Ramseier in 1929, who renamed the company to "Fritz Ramseier & Co., Carosserie Worblaufen"; it is also known as "Carosserie Worblaufen". Sometimes the company is in English publications referred to as "Ramseier Bros.", since Fritz Ramseier included his brothers Hans and Ernst in the enterprise.

Carosserie Worblaufen was a leading company for luxurious car bodies in Switzerland. It was especially known for sporty, elegant, open designs. [5]

Famous Worblaufen car bodies were used for Alfa Romeo, Bentley, BMW, Bugatti (Type 57 Grand Raid Roadster, Body Nr. 57260), Citroën, Delahaye (7 Type 135s which according to the Swiss Car Register still (2017) exist [6] ), Isotta Fraschini, Jaguar, Lancia, Mercedes-Benz and Talbot-Lago. [7]

Shortly after the end of WWII a four-door convertible was built on the chassis of a Packard Clipper Super or Super Eight. Worblaufen mixed design elements of both cars: the front was a 22nd and 23rd series Packards (1948–1950) but the sides lacked the continuous indentation. Instead, the sides were inspired by the Clipper of the 19th and 20th series (1941–1947). [8]

In March 1950 Worblaufen introduced a convertible on a Bentley Mark VI chassis at the Geneva Motor Show. [9]

However, the disappearance of traditional automobile manufacturers producing cars in bare chassis form forced Worblaufen, like many other coachbuilders at around the same time, to give up on the car body production in 1958. The company continued to make vehicle repairs and specialist truck conversions, until 1983. [10]

The Packard Clipper is an automobile that was built by the Packard Motor Car Company for model years 1941–1942, 1946–1947 and 1953–1957. For 1956 only, Clipper was classified as a stand-alone marque. The Clipper was introduced in April 1941, as a mid-model year entry. It was available only as a four-door sedan. The Clipper name was re-introduced in 1953, for the automaker's lowest-priced lineup. By 1955, the Clipper models were seen as diluting Packard's marketing as a luxury automobile marque. It was named for a type of sailing ship, called a clipper.

The Packard Custom Super Eight One-Eighty was introduced for the 1940 model year by the Packard Motor Car Company to replace the discontinued Packard Twelve as their top-of-the-line luxury model. The car was derived from the Packard Super Eight One-Sixty with which it shared the complete running gear including the in-line eight-cylinder, 356-cubic-inch (5,830 cc) engine that developed 180 horsepower. It was advertised as the most powerful eight-cylinder engine offered by any automobile manufacturer in 1940.. It was complemented and gradually replaced by the more modern looking and mid-level Packard Clipper in 1941 and integrated into the Super Eight after the war.

The Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A is a luxury car made by the Italian manufacturer Isotta Fraschini from 1924 until 1931. It was the successor to the Tipo 8 model, with a new 7.3-litre straight-eight engine to replace the 5.9-litre unit used in the previous model. This new engine could produce 115–160 metric horsepower (85–118 kW). This was the most powerful mass-produced straight-8 engine in the world at that time. The Tipo 8A was offered only with bare chassis and engine for the coachbuilders.

Carrosserie Pourtout was a French coachbuilding company. Founded by Marcel Pourtout in 1925, the firm is best known for its work in the decades prior to World War II, when it created distinctive and prestigious bodies for cars from numerous European manufacturers. Pre-war Pourtout bodies were mainly one-off, bespoke creations, typically aerodynamic and sporting in character. Together with chief coach designer and stylist Georges Paulin from 1933 to 1938, Pourtout pioneered the Paulin invented 'Eclipse' retractable hardtop system on four models of Peugeot, several Lancia Belna's and other car makes.
Among the company's customers was Georges Clemenceau, the physician and journalist who served as the prime minister of France from 1906 to 1909 and 1917 to 1920.

The Packard Panther is a concept car built in 1954 by Packard and was displayed at auto shows to showcase some of the ideas the automaker was considering for its production models. This show car was first named the "Grey Wolf" and also called the "Packard Daytona". A total of four Panthers were built.

Graber was a Swiss coachbuilder based in Wichtrach. Between 1927 and 1970 the firm supplied coach-built bodies for fitting on the chassis of various European and US auto-makers. Graber had a particularly close relationship with the British firm of Alvis, providing the manufacturer with bespoke and elegant if expensive bodies for almost twenty years, mostly during the 1950s and 1960s.

The Carlton Carriage Company was a highly respected London coachbuilder that provided bespoke coachwork for some of the finest car makers of the 1920s and 1930s. They are best known for their drophead coupes which are archetypal designs of the British Jazz Era.

Franay was a French coachbuilder operating at Levallois-Perret, a suburb on the prosperous north-western edge of Paris. The company was founded in 1903 by Jean-Baptiste Franay, a carriage upholsterer, following an apprenticeship with Binder. It was later taken over by his son, Marius. Franay car body production stopped in late 1955.

Antem Carrossier was a French coachbuilding company that, in the period between the world wars and a short time afterwards, produced high-quality one-off bodies for luxury car chassis, as well as some bodies in small series production.
