Cassandre Berdoz is a Swiss event organizer and the first woman to serve as Watchman of Lausanne Cathedral.
Berdoz was born and raised in Lausanne. [1] [2]
While a student at the University of Neuchâtel,Berdoz wrote letters to Lausanne city officials requesting they consider hiring a woman for the Cathedral watchman. [1] A few years later,when the recruitment process began for a new watchman,Berdoz applied. [1] [3] After two rounds of interviews and an audition,Berdoz was selected as watchman,becoming the first woman to ever hold the position. [1] [4] She assumed the role on 19 August 2021. [5]
As Watchman of the Lausanne Cathedral,she is assigned to post three to five nights a month,keeping watch from the bell tower. [1] [6] On the nights of her post,from 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM,Bersoz stands at each corner of the tower and calls out:“C’est la guette,il a sonnévingt-deux heures!” [1] [7]
Berdoz also works in event management. [1] She is a project manager for a communications agency,helping organize the annuel Nuit des Musées. [1]

Martje Saljé is a German Türmerin. She was appointed to the post at St Lambert's Church,Münster in January 2014,becoming the first woman since 1383 to have held the position. "Türmer" and "Türmerin" are not officially designated job titles in Germany and it has indeed been known for tour guides to adopt the title for themselves. However,Martje Saljéis believed to be one of at least three genuine Türmer or Türmerinen in Germany who are also women. The nature of the duties has changed in recent decades:Martje Saljé's appointment to the St Lambert's post was nevertheless intended to preserve an authentic tradition.
The Night Watchman is a novel by Louise Erdrich first published on March 3,2020 by HarperCollins. The novel is set in the 1950s. This is Erdrich's 6th standalone novel following Future Home of the Living God. The novel was inspired by the life of Erdrich's grandfather who motivated and inspired other members of the Turtle Mountain Reservation to resist the Indian termination policies of the 1940s-1960s. The Night Watchman is the first novel that Erdrich has written that is set on the Turtle Mountain Reservation.
