The Cassia County School District is a school district located in Cassia County, Idaho; its boundaries are coterminous with those of the county itself. It consists of 16 schools, [3] and is the largest employer in the county. [2] [4]

History

In 1948, Cassia County School District consolidated from 49 individually operating small districts spread throughout the county. These small districts consisted of mainly single room schoolhouses in highly rural areas, including Elba, View, Starr's Ferry, Marion, and others. [2]

Bond proposals were put forward to voters in 2016 and 2019 to raise money for facilities maintenance and improvement. Both failed to gain the required 2/3 majority of voters' approval, and therefore failed. [5] [6]

The newest addition to the district is John V. Evans Elementary School, which broke ground in 2016 [7] and opened in 2017. [8]

Also in 2016, the District’s superintendent, Gaylen Smyer, was recognized as Superintendent of the Year by the Idaho Association of School Administrators. [9]

In response to mental health concerns from the isolation from the Covid-19 pandemic, the district has implemented a 24-hour text hotline, called School Pulse, to aid students’ mental health. [10]

Denton Darrington is a former Republican Idaho State Senator serving from 1982 to 2012. He represented the Idaho 27th District which included all of Cassia County.

Declo High School is a public high school in Declo, Idaho. It is the second largest high school operated by the Cassia County Joint School District. Declo High School draws students from the cities of Declo and Albion as well as the unincorporated communities of Springdale, View and Unity to the west, Raft River to the east and Jackson to the north.

Idaho Legislative District 27 is one of 35 districts of the Idaho Legislature. It is currently represented by Senator Kelly Anthon, Republican of Declo, Representative Scott Bedke, Republican of Oakley, and Representative Fred Wood, Republican of Burley.

Strevell is a ghost town in Cassia County, Idaho, United States, approximately one mile (1.6 km) north of the Utah state line and roughly 23 miles (37 km) south–southeast of Malta. It is located in the Raft River Valley along the former routing of U.S. Route 30S, and later the former routing of Idaho State Highway 81.

The highway also has a spur that runs from City of Rocks Road to SH-77 in Connor.
