Catherine Byrne (born March 27,1964) [1] [2] is an American politician from the state of Nevada. She was elected Controller of Nevada on November 6,2018,defeating Republican incumbent Ron Knecht with 50.58% of the votes. [3] She is a certified public accountant and graduated from California Lutheran University. [4] Byrne did not run for reelection. [5]

She ran unsuccessfully as the 2010 Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate seat in Nevada,garnering 44.6 percent of the vote. On September 15,2013,she was unanimously elected the fifth President of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies,and resigned in 2016 to run again for the Nevada U.S. Senator position being vacated by Harry Reid but failed to win the Republican primary.
