Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) is a jail facility in Cebu, in Cebu Province, Philippines. It is a maximum security facility with a capacity for 1,600 inmates. [2]

The prison became well known for its rehabilitation program in 2005-2010 based on a program of choreographed exercise routines for the inmates. Known as CPDRC Dancing Inmates, the recordings of the various routines of the prisoners online supervised by the head of the prison Byron F. Garcia rendered them an international online celebrity sensation and phenomenon.[ citation needed ]

Although CPDRC is known for its Dancing Inmates, it has also appeared in a Hollywood film.

The final boxing scene in the climax of the 2017 film A Prayer Before Dawn, was filmed at CPRDC as Thai authorities denied permission for filming in the real Klong Prem prison.

Thriller is a viral video featuring the CPDRC Dancing Inmates of a high-security penitentiary. In 2007, the inmates of Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), a maximum security prison in Cebu, the Philippines, imitated the zombie dance featured in the music video of Michael Jackson's "Thriller". The footage, uploaded onto video-sharing website YouTube, became a viral video. The idea behind the dance came from the prison's chief, Byron F. Garcia. Garcia first conceived the idea of exercising as an enjoyable way of keeping the prisoners mentally and physically fit. Music was then added to provide additional motivation. The convicts marched and danced to several songs, including "In the Navy" and "Y.M.C.A." by the Village People.

A Prayer Before Dawn is a 2017 biographical prison film directed by Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire, written by Jonathan Hirschbein and Nick Saltrese and starring Joe Cole. It is based on the book A Prayer Before Dawn: My Nightmare in Thailand's Prisons by Billy Moore. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on 19 May 2017. It was released in the United Kingdom on 20 July 2018, by Altitude Film Distribution, and in the United States on 10 August 2018, by A24.

Happy Jail is a documentary streaming television series. The premise revolves around an ex-convict becoming the manager of the Philippine jail CPDRC in Cebu province known for a viral Michael Jackson dance video in 2007.
