Cerebral Bore is a Scottish brutal death metal band from Glasgow, formed in 2006.

Glasgow is the most populous city in Scotland, and the third most populous city in the United Kingdom, as of the 2017 estimated city population of 621,020. Historically part of Lanarkshire, the city now forms the Glasgow City council area, one of the 32 council areas of Scotland; the local authority is Glasgow City Council. Glasgow is situated on the River Clyde in the country's West Central Lowlands. Inhabitants of the city are referred to as "Glaswegians" or "Weegies". It is the fourth most visited city in the UK. Glasgow is also known for the Glasgow patter, a distinct dialect of the Scots language that is noted for being difficult to understand by those from outside the city.


The band comprises guitarist Paul McGuire, drummer Allan "McDibet" MacDonald and bassist Federico Benini. Cerebral Bore released a debut album, Maniacal Miscreation , in 2011 via Earache Records and have toured in United States, Europe, Russia, Israel, Mexico and India.

Maniacal Miscreation is the debut album by the Scottish brutal death metal band Cerebral Bore. It was recorded in Foel Studios with producer Chris Fielding and released on 11 April 2011 through Earache Records. A music video for "Maniacal Miscreation", filmed at Upwood Military Base in Peterborough, U.K. with director Phil Berridge was released on 11 April 2011.

Earache Records is an independent record label, music publisher and management company founded by Digby Pearson, based in Nottingham, England with offices in London and New York. It helped to pioneer extreme metal by releasing early grindcore and death metal records between 1988 and 1994. The label roster has since diversified into more mainstream guitar music, working with bands such as Rival Sons, The Temperance Movement, Blackberry Smoke and The White Buffalo. The company also hosted the 'Earache Express' stage at Glastonbury Festival in 2017 and will be hosting 'The Earache Factory' at Boomtown Fair 2018.

Blabbermouth.net described the style of Cerebral Bore as "brutal death metal with personality and compositional diversity". [1]

Blabbermouth.net is a website dedicated to heavy metal and hard rock news, as well as album and music DVD reviews. Blabbermouth.net was founded and is run by Borivoj Krgin. The first version of the website was launched in March 2001; in October 2001, the record label Roadrunner Records began hosting it.


Cerebral Bore formed in 2005 in Glasgow. The name of the band comes from a weapon featured in a video game called Turok 2: Seeds of Evil.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is a first-person shooter video game developed by Iguana Entertainment and published by Acclaim Entertainment. It was released for the Nintendo 64 console in 1998 and ported to Microsoft Windows computers in 1999. Seeds of Evil is the second game in the Turok video game series and a sequel to Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. The game follows the story of the latest Turok and his efforts to stop a powerful alien entity from escaping the confines of his Lightship. A different game set in the same fictional universe, also titled Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, was released for the Game Boy Color alongside the Nintendo 64 game.

With original members were Marc Mullen (guitar), Ross Howie (vocals) and Jack Nelson (drums), then followed by Ross Muir (bass).

In Mid 2005 Jack Nelson was replaced with Allan McDonald on drums. Releasing an early 4 track demo recorded in Glasgow.

In late 2006 Paul McGuire formerly of Pathogen, joined the band, Short after McGuire's arrival, Marc and Ross Muir decided to leave the band due to argument over musical differences and other reasons not seeing eye to eye with McGuire...

The band would continue from there changing lineups with McGuire as guitarist and McDibet still in the fold. In 2006 McGuire redesigned the brand of Cerebral Bore.

In November 2006, the band released a demo named The Dead Flesh Architect. The band's first trip outside of the United Kingdom took place in August 2007 and included New York City, United States, after having a song played on metal radio in N.Y. Following a U.K. tour, the band toured in the United States again, supporting Suffocation, Brutal Truth, and Devourment. Throughout 2009, Cerebral Bore toured in continental Europe, Scandinavia and Russia. [2]

Suffocation is an American death metal band formed in 1988 in Centereach, New York. The band consists of lead guitarist Terrance Hobbs, bassist Derek Boyer, rhythm guitarist Charlie Errigo, and drummer Eric Morotti. Suffocation rose to prominence of death metal and created a blueprint for the genre for the 1990s with their 1991 debut album Effigy of the Forgotten, and have released eight studio albums since formation. The band's raw death metal style uses growled vocals with a downtuned guitar sound, fast and complex guitar riffs and drumming, open chord notes, breakdowns, and a sophisticated sense of songwriting.

Brutal Truth American grindcore band from New York City

Brutal Truth was an American grindcore band from Rochester, New York, formed by ex-Anthrax, Nuclear Assault, and Stormtroopers of Death bass guitarist Dan Lilker in 1990. The group disbanded in 1999, but reformed in 2006 and continued to release music until 2014.

Devourment death metal band from Dallas, Texas, United States

Devourment is an American death metal band from Dallas, Texas. Formed in 1995, the band has split up and reformed three times leaving Brad Fincher as the only original member. The current lineup is Ruben Rosas, Chris Andrews, Dave Spencer and Brad Fincher. The band is currently signed to Relapse Records, and was previously signed to Brutal Bands, United Guttural and Corpse Gristle Records. Devourment has also had albums re-released by other labels.

In 2010, Cerebral Bore were joined by 18-year-old Dutch vocalist Simone "Som" Pluijmers. The debut album Maniacal Miscreation was recorded in mid-2010 and self-released in a limited edition of 500 copies. Touring in Europe and summer festivals continued in 2010. [2] In December 2010, The band signed to Earache Records. [3] The debut album was released in June 2011. [4] Cerebral Bore released music videos for "The Bald Cadaver" and "Maniacal Miscreation". The Netherlands is a country located mainly in Northwestern Europe. Following the band's last concert of their headlining U.S. and Mexico tour in mid-2011, McGuire and Rutherford were falsely arrested and jailed by New York City police officers searching for a man who murdered four people in a Long Island pharmacy. Paul McGuire was also arrested for public intoxication. A week later, they were formally released without charge and flown back to Scotland. [6] [7] Cerebral Bore played in The Summer Slaughter Tour 2012 from 20 July through 25 August. [8]

In November 2012, Pluijmers had left the band. The band commented: "Som walked out on us less than 24 hours before the U.S. tour, and we were forced to either cancel or go ahead with it as an instrumental, if need be. We didn't want to let our U.S. fans down, so we went ahead with our buddy Shawn Whitaker on vocals for the tour." [9] [10]

Musical style

Allmusic commented the band's debut album that "combines death metal brutality with a surprising dose of melody and technical skill". [4] Blabbermouth stated about Maniacal Miscreation: "It is brutal death metal (BDM) with personality and compositional diversity. (...) Budding BDM acts looking to avoid getting lost in the herd should take careful notes when listening to this one." [1]

Evile British band

Evile are an English thrash metal band from Huddersfield, formed in 1999. The band's debut album, Enter the Grave, was produced by Flemming Rasmussen at Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark and was released worldwide in 2007 by Earache Records to critical acclaim by fans and critics alike. The band's first reviews included a hail by Kerrang! as "Carrying the genre's whole 'revival' on their shoulders." Their second album, Infected Nations, was released on 21 September 2009.
