Chamanlal Doongaji was an Indian businessman, film producer and distributor known for producing the first-ever talking film in Kannada, Sati Sulochana . [1] He founded a film distribution company named South India Movietone in 1932. [2] [3]

He was from a Marwari family and was based in Bangalore. [4]

Kannada cinema, also known as Sandalwood, Kannada Film Industry or Chandanavana, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Kannada language widely spoken in the state of Karnataka. Y. V. Rao

Yaragudipati Varada Rao was an Indian film actor, screenwriter, director, editor, and producer, known for his works primarily in the Telugu cinema, Kannada cinema, and Tamil Cinema. Rao plunged into theatre and did a few stage plays before moving to Kolhapur and Bombay to act in silent films. Regarded as one of the greatest filmmaking pioneers of the Cinema of South India, he made motion-pictures across Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Konkani and Hindi languages, apart from silent films. Rao started his career as a lead actor in many silent films such as Garuda Garva Bhangam, Gajendra Moksham and Rose of Rajasthan.

The Dr. Vishnuvardhan Award, instituted in 2011 for the 2008–09 Karnataka State Film Awards is an award given by the government of Karnataka to long-serving film personalities in Kannada cinema. Subbaiah Naidu

Mysore Venkatappa Subbaiah Naidu was an Indian stage artiste in the silent movies era. He was an actor and director, well known for the movies Sati Sulochana (1934) in Kannada, which was also the first Kannada talkie, Bhookailas in Telugu and Bhakta Prahlada (1958) in Kannada. He acted in the first Kannada movie and brought distinction to Kannada cinema. He was the father of Kannada actor Lokesh and the grandfather of Kannada TV personality Srujan Lokesh. Recognizing his work in theatre, he was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1961.

Tripuramba Indian actress

Tripuramba (1910–1979) was an Indian theatre and film actress-singer who worked in Kannada films. She is best remembered for her role Sulochana in the first Kannada talkie Sati Sulochana, released in 1934, which made her the first heroine of Kannada cinema.
