Charles Forsman (born 1982) is an American cartoonist. Combining a simple drawing style with dark and realistic themes, Forsman continues the tradition of alternative comics.

Forsman's father died when Charles was 11 years old. [1] Forsman obtained a degree from the Center for Cartoon Studies in 2008. [2]

Career

His self-published comic Snake Oil won the 2008 Ignatz Awards for Outstanding Comic and Outstanding Series. His graphic novel The End of the Fucking World, "a modern ballad of angst and murder", [3] won the 2013 Ignatz Award for Outstanding Minicomic and was adapted in 2017 into a British TV series of the same name which ran for two seasons. [4]

The End of the Fucking World, originally published under Forsman's own imprint, Oily Comics, was collected by Fantagraphics. [5] [6]

I Am Not Okay with This and Celebrated Summer were published by Fantagraphics. All his other works, such as Revenger or Slasher, were either self-published, published by small publishers, or sold directly to online readers via Patreon. [2] Forsman has stated that Revenger was influenced by the Marvel Comics series The Punisher War Journal . [7]

On June 10, 2019, it was announced that Netflix would produce a seven-episode series based on I Am Not Okay with This . [8] The series premiered on February 26, 2020. [9] Originally renewed for a second season, Netflix canceled the series in August 2020, citing "circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic". [10]

The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) is a two-year institution focusing on sequential art, specifically comics and graphic novels. It is located in the village of White River Junction within the town of Hartford, Vermont. The Center offers a Master of Fine Arts degree, both one and two-year certificate programs, and summer programs. It is "the only college-level training program of its kind in the United States."

The Ignatz Awards recognize outstanding achievements in comics and cartooning by small press creators or creator-owned projects published by larger publishers. They have been awarded each year at the Small Press Expo since 1997, only skipping a year in 2001 due to the show's cancellation after the September 11 attacks. As of 2014 SPX has been held in either Bethesda, North Bethesda, or Silver Spring, Maryland.

Krazy Kat is an American newspaper comic strip, created by cartoonist George Herriman, which ran from 1913 to 1944. It first appeared in the New York Evening Journal, whose owner, William Randolph Hearst, was a major booster for the strip throughout its run. The characters had been introduced previously in a side strip with Herriman's earlier creation, The Dingbat Family, after earlier appearances in the Herriman comic strip Baron Bean. The phrase "Krazy Kat" originated there, said by the mouse by way of describing the cat. Set in a dreamlike portrayal of Herriman's vacation home of Coconino County, Arizona, KrazyKat's mixture of offbeat surrealism, innocent playfulness and poetic, idiosyncratic language has made it a favorite of comics aficionados and art critics for more than 80 years.

The End of the F***ing World is a British black comedy-drama television programme. The eight-part first series premiered its first episode on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom on 24 October 2017, after which the following episodes were released on All 4. Netflix handled international distribution and released it internationally on 5 January 2018. The programme follows James, a 17-year-old who believes himself to be a psychopath, and Alyssa Foley, an angry classmate who sees in James a chance to escape from her tumultuous home life. Gemma Whelan, Wunmi Mosaku, Steve Oram, Christine Bottomley, Navin Chowdhry, Barry Ward and Naomi Ackie appear in supporting roles.

The series stars Sophia Lillis, Wyatt Oleff, Sofia Bryant, and Kathleen Rose Perkins. The series was released on Netflix on February 26, 2020, and received positive reviews, with praise for the performances, particularly for Lillis and Oleff.
