Philately is the study of postage stamps and postal history. It also refers to the collection and appreciation of stamps and other philatelic products. Philately involves more than just stamp collecting or the study of postage; it is possible to be a philatelist without owning any stamps. For instance, the stamps being studied may be very rare or reside only in museums.
Evelyn Arthur Smythies, CIE, was a distinguished forester and philatelist, born of British parents in India. Smythies was an expert on the ecology of Uttarakhand and Nepal. His careful studies of the earliest postage stamps of India, Jammu and Kashmir, Nepal, and Canada produced groundbreaking handbooks on which philatelists rely, even today.

Michael Madesker FRPSL was a Canadian philatelist who was appointed to the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 2000. He is a fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society of London. He obtained the Geldert and Dube Medals for his philatelic writing and was president of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada. In 2010 he received the Philatelic Achievement Award of the Smithsonian Museum. He made a donation of his philatelic medals to the Vincent Graves Greene Philatelic Research Foundation.
John H. Barwis is an American philatelist who signed the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 2020. He is also the 2020 recipient of the Lichtenstein Medal.
Yamil H. Kouri Jr. is an American philatelist who signed the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 2020. He serves as President of the Postal History Society.
Patricia Stilwell Walker is an American philatelist who signed the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 2022.
