He quit the Indian National Congress on 27 September 2021 to join the All India Trinamool Congress on 29 September 2021. On 10 April 2023 he resigned from Trinamool Congress and also resigned from Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament post under the ticket of Trinamool Congress. He is married to Rachel Faleiro and is the father of two sons,Lenin,Rabindra and only daughter Rania.
Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh is an Indian politician who has served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Indian state of Meghalaya since 2008. She currently serves as a Cabinet Minister in the State Government of Meghalaya.

The 2003 Meghalaya Legislative Assembly election was held on 26 February 2003. The north-east Indian state's seventh Legislative Assembly election saw major changes with 28 sitting members and two former Chief Ministers losing their seats. No party won a majority of seats and despite more than a five percent loss in the popular vote compared to the 1998 election,the INC secured a plurality. Initially,the NCP under leader E. D. Dr. Azad Zaman was an Indian Bengali politician,doctor and social worker. He was the former member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly for the Rajabala constituency in West Garo Hills district.
