Charles Thurston Thompson (1816-1868) was an early British photographer.

Thompson is credited with having taken the first ever photograph of a photographic exhibition, in his capacity as the official photographer of the South Kensington Museum, now known as the Victoria and Albert Museum. [1] In 1858 he photographed the Raphael Cartoons of the Royal Collection. [2]

His work is included in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, [1] [3] the Museum of Modern Art, New York, [4] the Getty Museum, [5] the National Gallery of Art, Washington [6] and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. [7]

The Raphael Cartoons are seven large cartoons for tapestries, belonging to the British Royal Collection but since 1865 on loan to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, designed by the High Renaissance painter Raphael in 1515–16 and showing scenes from the Gospels and Acts of the Apostles. They are the only surviving members of a set of ten cartoons commissioned by Pope Leo X for the Sistine Chapel tapestries for the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican Palace, which are still hung below Michelangelo's famous ceiling.

David Goldblatt HonFRPS was a South African photographer noted for his portrayal of South Africa during the period of apartheid. After apartheid had ended he concentrated more on the country's landscapes. What differentiates Goldblatt's body of work from those of other anti-apartheid artists is that he photographed issues that went beyond the violent events of apartheid and reflected the conditions that led up to them. His forms of protest have a subtlety that traditional documentary photographs may lack: "[M]y dispassion was an attitude in which I tried to avoid easy judgments. . . . This resulted in a photography that appeared to be disengaged and apolitical, but which was in fact the opposite." He has numerous publications to his name.

Guy Bourdin, was a French artist and fashion photographer known for his provocative images. From 1955, Bourdin worked mostly with Vogue as well as other publications including Harper's Bazaar. He shot ad campaigns for Chanel, Charles Jourdan, Pentax and Bloomingdale's.

Clementina Maude, Viscountess Hawarden, née Clementina Elphinstone Fleeming, commonly known as Lady Clementina Hawarden, was a noted British amateur portrait photographer of the Victorian Era. She produced over 800 photographs mostly of her adolescent daughters.

John Thomson (photographer)

John Thomson was a pioneering Scottish photographer, geographer, and traveller. He was one of the first photographers to travel to the Far East, documenting the people, landscapes and artefacts of eastern cultures. Upon returning home, his work among the street people of London cemented his reputation, and is regarded as a classic instance of social documentary which laid the foundations for photojournalism. He went on to become a portrait photographer of High Society in Mayfair, gaining the Royal Warrant in 1881.

Isabel Agnes Cowper British photographer (1826–1911)

Isabel Agnes Cowper, a British wood-engraver and photographer, was the first female Official Museum Photographer at the South Kensington Museum and possibly the first female Official Museum Photographer ever. From 1868, when Cowper assumed the role at the museum, to her retirement in 1891, Cowper made thousands of photographs documenting museum and loan objects and the construction of the museum buildings. In her lifetime, Cowper's photographs were widely circulated as illustrations in South Kensington Museum publications and examples of her work are continually being discovered in libraries and archives around the world.
